Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hello, My name is Phineus. My foster family calls me Phin. I am a neutered, about 2 years old, 48 pound, black lab mix. I am much smaller than the average Lab mix, in fact some say I look like a miniature Lab. I am super sweet, very gentle, and give lots and lots of kisses once I know I can trust you. My life was not always great. It's clear that at some time in the past, people have not shown me their best side. The people I lived with before did not treat me like the nice people at SCLRR do but I am learning how to trust people. I love all the women and girls I meet but out of fear of meeting new people, especially large men, I cower and may go the other way. I am learning that not all people are going to hurt me, but I am not sure yet who I can and cannot trust, so I ask that my new family be extra patient while I get to know them. I promise I will warm up. It just takes me a bit.
I just went to the vet and had lots of dental work done and a full exam. The Vet said I am healthy and ready to thrive. Even though I am young, I really do not have a high energy level like most Labs my age. I don't chase balls and only do the occasional zoomie. I have been learning how to be a proper pup. I know to do my "business" outside most of the time but I still pee inside sometimes. My foster dad thinks I lived outside all the time before coming to SCLRR so I am learning about being inside the house. I do like being inside better than being outside though. I was never walked on a leash before so my foster family is currently leash teaching me. I am trying but still need continued training on how to properly walk on a leash. Loud noises and new places are not my favorite thing and make me shy away at first. When I get frightened, I usually run to my safe place in the backyard. I will usually come when my foster family calls me but it may take a little bit. I have not met any cats yet so I am not sure if I like them or not. I get along with my foster dog sister OK but sometimes I quietly growl at her if I am not in the mood to be bothered.
I really want to find a forever family that will be patient with me. One who will expose me to new things and show me I am safe. I have already learned a lot in my foster home! I know I can continue to learn to bond and love everyone.
