My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MAD boy Cain is one of the most handsome Dutch Shepherds we’ve seen.  His heart and will to survive have seen him through extremely tough experiences, but he is now ready to shine for the right adopter.

Cain was used as a fight dog, and arrived at his foster’s home with a leg injury, and a broken spirit and heart.  He trusted no one, wouldn’t let anyone near him for weeks.  Slowly but steadily, Cain has been learning how to trust his foster, be cared for, and now has a new excitement for life.

This gorgeous guy has learned to be playful and is good with other dogs.  He is still fearful of new experiences, and especially of men.  He stays close to his foster mom and avoids other people at this time, but the strides he has made are heartwarming and he continues to slowly gain confidence.

Cain is crate trained, house trained, knows sit and is learning down.  He is treat-motivated, which has facilitated his training. He is fine on a leash and has great recall.  He can also not only jump a 6’ fence but he can scale fences as well, so he will need extra attention for a while until he is not a flight risk.  His foster is now teaching him perimeter boundaries to curtail the fence jumping.

Cain will need a female adopter who is very experienced with high drive breeds.  He needs ongoing structure, training and a patient, loving place wherein he can continue to learn trust and feel safe.  He has had a rough life, but deserves a great life now.  He needs his special person, who can give him the love and support he needs to thrive.

More about this rescue

Mission Statemet
Malinois and Dutch Shepherd Rescue, Inc. (MAD) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which is dedicated to rescuing Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds who have found themselves without a home (surrendered, discarded, abused, neglected or impounded). MAD does not have a physical location and is operated by compassionate, like-minded professionals who volunteer their time and resources to help save and care for the Malinois and Dutch Shepherds. All animals that are accepted by MAD are spayed or neutered, given medical attention and rehabilitation, as needed, and placed with foster homes until their health and evaluations are completed and they are ready to be placed in their loving permanent homes.
