My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

1/08/24 Foster Update: DJ is much more relaxed and making good progress with the help of some inexpensive anti-anxiety medicine. His medicine has really helped to reduce his anxiety symptoms, most notably trembling when a new person visits his foster home. He still prefers to stay inside and he runs out the door and back in to get to his comfort zone, where he is so happy and affectionate. His Foster Dad says the fur on DJ's tail and hindquarters has now grown in quite a bit and soon will be gloriously full like the rest of his beautiful coat. And he is so expressive with his tail when he's happy! His Foster Dad nicknamed him "Thumper!" We wonder if another laid back dog or cat in his forever home will help DJ relax even more.

DJ's Story: DJ is a 9-year old, 59 lb. mix, possibly with some Golden Retriever. He has a lovely, mostly white coat that you cannot resist petting. DJ was adopted as a pup and lived with another dog most of his life. His human Mom became disabled and could no longer care for her treasured boys. DJ's dog friend was adopted and DJ is hoping for a quiet forever home.

DJ is a sweet and well-behaved boy who is a little reserved when he first meets a new person. When our SGRR volunteer went to his previous owner's home, he was a little shy but curious and then came over to greet her. DJ likes other dogs, all people, and even cats. He is the quintessential couch-potato dog, jumping on and off the couch to say hello and then settling back down. One of his favorite things, according to his foster dad, is to hang out on the couch or bed with his lamb chop toy. He could care less about leashed walks and car rides.

DJ, being quiet, shy and loving, will blossom in his new home where he will be the center of someone's world. DJ has just been groomed and is looking so handsome! One of the most adorable things about DJ is how he wears his ear in different styles, from floppy to perked up to somewhere in between! He would love a home where his humans are around much of the time and where he can lounge in a yard with them.

DJ is in good health with a lower energy level and good mobility. Stairs and couches give him no problems! He is vaccinated, neutered, micro-chipped, heartworm negative and is in the northeast waiting to meet his BFF.

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
