My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you!

Due to overwhelming interest, we are not accepting any additional applications for Brody. Brody hopes you will consider one of our other sweet dogs, waiting for a home. Thank you!

Brody is a big, handsome Golden Retriever with a sweet and gentle temperament. We learned his owner passed away months ago and Brody remained at the home with a friend until he was found wandering in Stamford, CT. Brody is now with SGRR, staying at a foster home in CT, as he awaits his forever home.

At 88 lbs, Brody is a big guy but not overweight. Estimated to be about 11 years old, Brody is easy company with wonderful house manners. He is house trained and lets you know when he needs to go out for a potty break. He loves being near you and he gets along with every human and dog he has met. He does like to chase cats, though. He bonds quickly and already loves his foster mom as well as the small resident dog.

His foster's dog walker was impressed by how nicely Brody walks on a leash, with no pulling or wandering all over the place. He sleeps well through the night, next to his foster's bed, and he enjoys putting a cold, wet nose in her face at about 7 a.m. when he is ready to go out and then have his breakfast. He has learned, very quickly, that with a trip to the kitchen there is always a possibility for a treat to be handed out. The little resident dog gets soft treats and Brody gets Piggy Sticks, which he LOVES crunching on! He also loves car rides and being included.

Writing about Brody's nice manners and pleasant disposition does not convey how sweet a Golden he is, or how easy a companion he will be for whoever gives him a loving home. He is a truly good boy and just wants to love you and be loved in return. And he is as handsome as he is loving! Brody's photos do not do him justice.

Brody has some of the age-related issues we see so often in older dogs. He has arthritis and needs to build up his muscle mass in back, as it appears he didn't get in much walking time before coming to SGRR. With anti-inflammatory medicine he is already doing better each day, even managing stairs to the back yard. He had an ear and eye infection and a couple hot spots, all of which have been treated since his initial vet visit when we took him in. He was not neutered, which will be addressed when he has had time to settle.

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.
If you would like to be part of Brody's rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact Candy to be considered to adopt sweet Brody.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
