Meet Bandit, our shelter’s longest resident and one of its biggest hearts. Nearly 8 years old, Bandit is nothing but an absolute lover once he feels safe and comfortable with his person. He forms deep bonds and truly thrives in a calm, predictable environment where he can relax and just be himself.
Bandit’s only quirk is that he doesn’t enjoy meeting strangers, so he’s looking for a home without lots of visitors or frequent company coming and going. He does well with kids and other calm, respectful dogs, but he’s not a fan of cats. While he enjoys his daily walks, Bandit isn’t a dog who wants to go out to busy public places. His idea of happiness is much simpler: a quiet home, a cozy couch, warm blankets, and his favorite human right by his side.
After spending far too long waiting, Bandit deserves someone who will see past his initial hesitation and give him the peaceful, loving home he’s been dreaming of. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who just wants to love and be loved in return, Bandit may be the perfect match for you.

More about this shelter
Our Mission: Safe Animal Shelter is a nonprofit organization working to reduce the number of cats and dogs euthanized in Clay County and surrounding areas.
Safe Animal Shelter is Clay County's oldest no-kill shelter, created for the purpose of preserving and providing quality of life for lost, abandoned, abused and unwanted pets. The first facility opened in Orange Park in the summer of 1991 and continued to operate at that location until moving to a new facility in Middleburg, December 6, 2003. Since its inception, Safe Animal Shelter has provided loving care to over 17,000 cats and dogs until adopted into forever homes.
All rescued animals at the Safe Animal Shelter are provided food, shelter, loving care, attention, socialization, recreation, exercise and quality medical treatment. Medical treatment includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, heartworm treatment, corrective surgery and other needed services. Once residents are recovered and ready for adoption, they are placed in carefully screened permanent homes.
Safe Animal Shelter receives no government funding, so private donations from individuals, groups and businesses make a huge difference in the day to day stay in the shelter.
