Platano is a 7 year old Pointer mix, special needs dog, looking for his family! He was found in the streets of Playa del Carmen after being hit by a car and left to die. His pelvis was unfortunately severely fractured and the operation wasn’t done in time. He experiences no pain or discomfort but he’s considered special needs as his mobility is reduced and different. He’s completely unaware that he’s different, he just takes life at a slower pace. He’s ready to come to Canada to retire and be spoiled like he deserves in his new home! The harsh truth is that he simply will never be adopted where he is now due to his “handicap”. Luckily here in Canada we love our special needs dogs! Depending on how he ages, it’s recommended that he be put on CBD/Glucosamine in the future, as any senior may need, but he requires no special medical treatment. He's more sensitive and his weight should be kept under control to now add any unnecessary pressure on his pelvis/hips, etc. Because of his yellow coloring and his sweet demeanor, they named him Platano, which means “banana” in Spanish. Platano can live with cats and has been around over 80 dogs for over 5 years but he would prefer to live in a home without dogs. He just wants to be made feel safe and unconditionally loved and will do the same in return!
Platano’s adoption fee includes his vaccination, sterilization, microchipping and a recent blood test and dental cleaning.
Sometimes a dog takes a little more time to open up, you may see them showing more and more of their personality over the course of the first few days, weeks or even months! We don’t know all that they’ve been through before they were rescued, but they are so forgiving and full of love and it’s worth every tough moment in the end. Developing a trusting relationship with your rescue dog is the most important thing. Stability, patience, positive reinforcement and love are the most important things!

Nous ne savons pas tout ce qu’ils ont vécu avant d’être secourus, mais ils sont tellement indulgents et pleins d’amour et chaque moment difficile en vaut finalement la peine. Développer une relation de confiance avec votre chien de sauvetage est la chose la plus importante. Go meet their pets
We are presently foster based so the meetings will take place where the dogs are being kept and that way the potential family can also discuss the good and bad habits of that dog to see if it's the right fit. The families need to be willing to work on a behaviour if it needs work and to provide the appropriate time and patience for the dog to accllimate to it's new home!

We are a small shelter with lots of experience with dogs and rescuing. I worked for a larger shelter in the past but didn't always appreciate the way things were handled so I decided to branch out in a smaller scale but with all of the wonderful contacts and information that I've learned in the past decade + of doing rescue! Dogs are my passion and I would love to place as many as possible in their loving, furever homes!
