My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You’ll fall in love the moment you meet Kenzie! With a heart full of affection and a tail that wags with joy, this charming girl is eager to bring happiness into your life. She has soulful eyes and a gentle disposition. This is a wonderful dog who simply needs someone to love her. As we have learned more about Kenzie, we have found that she would like to be the only pet in her family - and after being abandoned by her former humans, we can't blame her for wanting her humans all to herself. As far as humans go, this girl hasn't met a stranger. After a nice walk Kenzie is very "chill" and just loves to hang out with her humans friends. She is at a wonderful age where she has energy for a nice jaunt in this cooler time of year and then she is happy to hang out at home.

Kenzie was fortunate to spend time in a foster home, but with the holidays upon us, the foster family cannot continue to care for her. Her foster mom shared, "She is lying on my bed with me as I write this. I can't write too much about how I care for her or I'll keep crying. The wonderful thing about Kenzie is that she really loves humans. She was more reticent about my husband in the beginning. After accepting him she kept trying to play. She doesn't chew or steal what isn't hers. Yes, she likes shoes but I gave her an old one and she seems to realize others are "off limits." She loves her own things-plays with them and puts them in her bed. She has a gentle mouth and takes treats easily. She follows her schedule, but can be flexible with meal times. After breakfast she wants to walk and then she is ready for a mid-morning siesta. When she gets up we will walk around noon. Afternoons have been backyard play time. No, she doesn't fetch (yet) but LOVES to run to whatever you throw. She does like to play-she's a 6 year old puppy! She's ready to eat dinner by 5:00. I wish it was lighter in the evenings so we could go outside and get all the pre-bed energy expended! Bedtime for us has been around 9:00-10:00. She goes upstairs readily and gets into our bed...not so much into hers! She does startle at strange night-time noises but settles down once we reassure her. That's all someone needs to do is to tell her it's OK. She gets the message if one takes the time to reassure her. She's a wonderful girl and will make an awesome companion for someone!"

Beautiful Kenzie was picked up as a stray in Baldwin County, AL and, like so many of the strays in the south, she went unclaimed. Kenzie is estimated to be about 6 years old and is likely a Golden Retriever mixed with Pyrenees! She has a beautiful creamy white colored coat with a few splotches of reddish golden, making her a very unique looking lady! Kenzie is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and micro-chipped. She was treated for heartworm in the south and is now cleared for activity. She is in CT and is ready to meet her forever family - perhaps that is YOU!

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

If you would like to be part of Kenzie's rescue story and are already approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Cheryl to be considered to adopt Kenzie.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
