My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for a diamond in the rough? Here he is!! Meet Jack. This 3-4 year old smooth coated red and white BC boy is the most cooperative, sweet, easy to be around fellow we've come across in a long while. Good-natured, rather unflappable, and with the manners of a gentleman, Jack is really a wonderful companion.

Why anyone would throw this dog away is beyond us, but indeed, Jack was abandoned at a shelter by a family who couldn't afford to care for him any more. They also reported he'd had one seizure a month for the last 2 months they had owned him. Despite the stressful upheaval in his life, weeks at a shelter, the subsequent move to a WBCR foster home, and lots of playing in the heat, we've seen not a sign of a health issue...what we HAVE seen is an affectionate, fun-loving fella!

Jack is friendly and polite to everyone he meets, adult humans and canine alike. (We have not seen Jack around kids yet.) While he gets along just fine with other dogs, he doesn't seem to be interested in playing with them, and we think he'd be fine as an only dog. Humans are another story!! Jack is generous with kisses and loves to snuggle with people. He'll climb into your lap for hugs if you let him! He loves just being with his family, be it on long walks, in the garden, hiking, jogging, or...his all time favorite: playing fetch! He adores nothing more than a little ball playing daily, and is quite particular about what kind of ball it is - tennis only, thank you! He'll carry his beloved ball everywhere, even drop it into the water dish when it's time for a drink, and he will give a little grunt to remind you when it's time to throw it again. Yet he's not super obsessive about fetching - when ball time is over, Jack easily moves on to other things. He's shown some herdy-ness around the cats, but all in all he's a moderate energy boy and will make a great active companion. With his lean, athletic build and love of the ball, we think he'd make a great canine sports candidate, too!

Believe it or not - he's as well-mannered as he is level-headed! Jack is housetrained and is great in the house - his fosters have found him to be trustworthy left home alone uncrated. He rides well in the car and is good around horses. Cats and small animals...well...he is inclined to chase them, but nobody's perfect! Jack is familiar with a lot of the basics and will need just a little more work on the more advanced things like staying and coming when called. He's bright, sensitive, and focuses well, and should learn quickly anything you want to teach him. And with his expressive ears, he is CUTE!!!!!!!

Given his agreeable disposition, this gem will do well in many different situations. One thing's for sure - whoever takes him home will be getting a prize! If you are looking for a lovely long-legged red and white shadow to share your life and your tennis balls with - Jack may be your guy! He deserves nothing less than the best and will reward his family with quiet devotion and love.

Jack is neutered, microchipped and fully vetted and living in a loving foster home near Colorado Springs, CO.
