My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Yes
Kid Friendly: Yes
Weight: 35 lbs

I’m Blackjack, a goofy, energetic pup with a heart as big as my personality. I’m looking for an active and loving forever home where I can thrive with structure, guidance, and plenty of playtime. If you’re an adventurer who loves the outdoors and are ready to help me be the best pup ever, we might be the perfect match!

The Basics:
I must have a medium or large dog sibling who loves to wrestle and play as much as I do. I’m happiest when I have a four-legged buddy to keep me company and help burn off my boundless energy. I love other dogs, but neutered males or females work best—unaltered males aren’t my jam. My size and enthusiasm might be a bit much for toddlers, but I’m great with people of all ages. I also get along with cats—I’m curious and playful, but I don’t get aggressive with them.

My Personality:
I’m a sweet and goofy guy who loves nothing more than to be by your side. From helping you cook in the Kitchen (I only wanna taste) to supervising shower time! I’m a true velcro pup who thrives on companionship and affection—I’ll even give you real hugs! After a day of play, I’m all about snuggles and hanging out with my family. I’m also a bit of a rascal who loves to explore, dig, and find new treasures (snacks left on the counter are fair game though my foster mom is working with me so I only eat the treats I am given). My big, goofy energy will keep you laughing every day.

Kennel Life & Training:
I’m kennel trained and settle in after a little while, but I do have some separation anxiety. I might cry at first and have accidents in my kennel if I’m feeling stressed—especially if it’s not solid-sided. I’ll need a loving but firm owner who can provide structure and patience while helping me learn and grow. I already know commands like Sit, Kennel, and Down, and I’m working on leash manners and not jumping. With consistent training, I have been improving and I’ll continue to improve!

Other Fun Facts:
I love to wrestle and run—it’s my absolute favorite thing to do!
Digging and stealing yard decor is another one of my hobbies, so I’ll need some supervision in the yard. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, and slightly mischievous pup who will fill your home with love and laughter, I’m your guy. I’ll thrive in a home with a loving but firm owner and a dog sibling who’s ready for lots of wrestling matches and adventures. Let’s meet soon—I can’t wait to start our journey together!

Additional adoption info

For us, the adoption process begins the day we take a dog or cat into our rescue. It’s a huge responsibility, taking in a lost soul and promising them a happy life, but we are pretty proud of the forever families we’ve helped create because our adoption process is so thorough.

The first step in adopting is to fill out the adoption application. This helps our volunteers understand what kind of new friend you are looking for, and allows us to identify any issues that would prevent us being able to place certain animals in certain homes. For example, breed restrictions in your town or apartment complex, etc…

The Beauties will conduct a vet check to make sure the pets you currently have are all up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed or neutered. We will also contact you to set up a home visit, where we can make sure that the home you have meets the needs of the animal you are interested in. Example: fence height for dogs who are jumpers, stairs for dogs who have mobility challenges, etc… We try to troubleshoot any potential problem areas and offer friendly advise so that our ultimate goal, a forever happy match, can be achieved.

After the application process is complete, the real fun begins! It’s time for Meet-N-Greets! We have a professional dog trainer on our board of directors, and we can schedule her assistance in helping you with dog-to-dog introductions while you are searching for your new family member. It’s amazing how often the existing family pet has a little something to say about who they want to spend time with and having a pro help out makes the potential for a successful intro go through the woof! We mean, roof!

Once you have decided on the dog or cat of your dreams, all that is left to do is sign the adoption contract and pay the fee, which includes all vaccinations, microchip and spay/neuter.

More about this rescue

Beauties and Beasts is a state-licensed 501(c)(3) death row rescue located in Wichita, Kansas. Since our founding in October 2014, we have been able to save the lives thousands of death row animals, we have also been able to network out thousands more animals to other rescues. We are a completely 100% volunteer run rescue, we also rely on 100% donations from our followers and supporters to carry out our mission to save animals in our community.

Our purpose is to rescue death row animals from the shelter and in our community and place them in foster homes where they can receive the care and training needed to become family pets. Our main mission is to change these animals’ worlds one rescue at a time. Another large part of our mission is to be a voice for animals in need throughout our community and we are proud to say we have been able to make an impact on the streets of our city as well.

We do not discriminate against breed, age, medical needs, or behavior. We love ALL animals and breeds the same.
