Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Captain Hook/ Mini Poodle mix
4mo/ 5lbs
Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you meet the requirements, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications can be found on our website at gateway4paws.org
Only completed applications that meet requirements will be reviewed. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive for a meet & greet.
Captain was given to us as a ‘designer’ puppy. Sigh. Even the breeder doesn’t know exactly what he is, but we were told he is mini apricot Poodle and Cavalier. Whatever the mix, he is adorable.
Captain Hook has had a complete wellness check & his neuter. He has been declared healthy & ready for adoption. Captain has been with other dogs during his foster stay & he loves to play with them all. He would benefit greatly from puppy training classes with his new family, but it isn’t mandatory.
We are open to discussing an x-pen if you do not have a fenced yard. Captain is not leashed trained, so he will need a secure containment immediately. If you have a fence, it needs to be completely secure & enclosed. NEVER EVER should he be left in a yard without supervision. He is tiny, very small. He could easily get lost or be snatched up by a predator. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep him off the stairs unsupervised. Additionally, please be aware of the stair railing & the distance between the spindles.
Captain is working on potty training. It is a process that will require commitment & patience, as he has a little puppy bladder. When a new environment is introduced, there are changes in routine, therefore he will need her family to be patient & set him up for a successful transition.
We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. They need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up for them. This area will be a part of the home where they can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where they can play, lounge, or nap when their family is not directly engaging with them. Playpens, 4-squares, or xpens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too.
Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility that requires oodles of time! Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt an adorable puppy. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first. Captain is ready to meet his new family right now!
