My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Single, balding, middle aged, semi-retired, distinguished gentleman, seeking companionship:

The name is Maxwell. My friends call me Max. Sometimes, they also call me an asshole.

I'm looking for love again. Hopefully it still exists at my age. I'm 8 years old. Short, 18 pounds. I'm also a little bald but my skin matches my hair so your friends won't notice. It's the same concept as men who spray canned hair color on their bald spots. I'm Divorced. The last woman who loved me fled the country. My passport was no good so I couldn't go. Kinda sad. I do miss her. I'm in temporary housing so it's a real bonus if you have a pad where we can play house. I don't really like young children but I guess I could tolerate it for hours if you have visitors. I enjoy naps in the recliner and my favorite shows are British comedy and murder mysteries.

I know my physical description doesn't sound great, but I'm not looking for Miss America or Mr. Olympia either. (btw, I go both ways) A good-looking companion is a bonus, but at this point it's not a requirement for me. I have a soft side and I do enjoy cuddling and taking long walks. I have my moments too. I can be grouchy and sometimes I can lash out but I'm working on that! Nobody is perfect. I'm sure you're not either, right? I'm opinionated and I don't want a lot of friends. I'd prefer to be the only fur fella so I can have all of your attention. I'm a GREAT listener as I don't have much to say. Poor your cocktail and tell me your life story. I can listen for hours.

If you've gotten this far and didn't stop reading, then I feel like I might have a chance with you.

The real deal details: Maxwell came to us when his owner had to move overseas and couldn't take him with her. He lived with her all 8 years of his life. He smart and would be a nice companion dog for the right adopter. He doesn't enjoy the company of young kids. Maxwell really loves his foster family, but he will act out if he is made to feel uncomfortable. He gets nervous if he thinks someone is going to do something to him that he doesn't like. He's a nipper when he feels unsafe. He will need an adopter that understand "small dog" attitude. This little guy still has a lot of love & life to give to some lucky adopter. He is housetrained and VERY easy going! He ignores the cats in his foster home. Maxwell is up to date on his vaccines, microchipped and neutered.

***You must be at least 25 years of age to adopt from Canine and Kitties Rescue***

The adoption fee for this dog is $375.00, which helps with the cost of routine vet care.

***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.***

Our organization cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and/or the general appearance of the animal.

Our Adoption Events are scheduled on a monthly basis depending on where most of the dogs are fostered at that time. We plan to hold 6-8 events per year.

More about this rescue

Canines & Kitties Rescue is an animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected, and abandoned dogs, puppies, cats and kittens at risk of euthanasia. Our mission is to rescue animals from local and out of state open-admission, high-intake shelters. Our volunteers are experienced in animal care, proper placement and provide assistance to our animals throughout the foster journey, adoption process and beyond. All animals are cared for in our network of volunteer foster homes.

Our volunteer rescuers work with local veterinarians, foster homes, and trainers to provide foster based homes, medical care and training for our animals until she/he is placed in a loving, carefully screened new home. We are dedicated to helping dogs and cats of all breeds and ages including the older, sick, and injured animals as well as the readily adoptable. We have a special spot in our hearts for pregnant unwanted animals and strive to find them a safe foster home to birth and raise their young. We are advocates for spay and neuter and that each animal we rescue will be spayed and neutered at an appropriate age.

Canines & Kitties Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are an exclusively 100% volunteer based, foster-based rescue with our foster network spanning Northern VA, MD, and DC.
