My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nike, the adorable little piglet-looking dog with a resilient spirit. Despite enduring hardships , Nike is a sweet and affectionate pup, ready to embark on a new journey with a compassionate family who understands him. With the guidance of his foster dad, Nike has learned that trust takes time to build, but with patience and a gentle approach, he blossoms . Though initially cautious around new people, Nike's playful side shines through during games like blanket-peekaboo and tug-of-war, and there's nothing he loves more than snuggling up in his human's lap . Nike's past experiences have shaped him into a dog with unique preferences, but his interactions with kids have shown promise. He may initially be wary, making him a potential furry friend for families with older kids who understand his initial fears and head-shy behaviors. With Nike by your side, every day is an adventure filled with love, laughter, and the joy of unconditional companionship.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
