My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Boots. Animal Control found me as a stray and took me to the Prince George’s County shelter on August 15. My Foster Mom saw me in my kennel and took me home on August 31. I currently live with 4 other dogs (2 male chihuahuas, 1 female chihuahua, and 1 female yorkie mix). I get along well with everyone in the pack.

My hind legs don’t work well, but I get around the house and the yard just fine. Indoors, my mom has placed pillows on the step that leads from the kitchen to the family room, so I can navigate that just fine. Outdoors, I need to be carried from the deck to the grass and back up to the deck. The doctors say that the problem with my back legs is a combination of neurological issues and orthopedic issues. Both of my kneecaps are luxated. The doctors say that surgery may help with mobility, but would only be effective in my left hind leg. I don’t use my right leg at all. And the neurological issues start in the lower spine. So, surgery would not help with my right leg at all.

Still, I run and play with the other dogs. My foster mom works from home, I go outside every 3 or 4 hours, and have only had 1 or 2 accidents in the house. I am still learning what to do from the pack. I have to eat separated from the pack because I AM GREEDY and will steal the others’ food! I have a squeaky toy, a spikey ball, and a chew bone that I like to keep nearby, because they are mine!
