My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Cassidy is a very friendly 5 year old, who has a cute twin brother named Butch.  They have both been to the vet recently and passed their health exams with flying colors, and had vax updated.  They were both part of a 7-cat rescue in late July by VCC, when a long time volunter who had 7 cats had a medical emergency severe enough that she could no longer care for them at all.  We took them in and have spent 2.5 months socializing them to a place of cleanliness and safe living.  They'd love to have a second chance at their own small loving home.  They are bonded and used too other cats but do not have to be adopted together.  They both are really perfect for cat lovers, an older person/couple or family, who want active, interactive pets for close companionship.  Neither has ever lived outdoors so really must have indoor-only home.  Call use at 941-525-4568 if you are interested!

More about this rescue

Founded in 2006 by veteran cat rescue team leader, Theresa Foley,

The Key West Cat Society / Venice Cat Coalition is dedicated to changing our nation's approach to the problem of too many homeless cats. Theresa and other volunteers solve this problem in two ways:

1. First an attitude of doing it "cat by cat." If the magnitude of the situation appears to be overwhelming, we methodically devise a plan to help the colony cats one at a time, until the breeding and other undesirable behaviors have been resolved. We work constantly to help those who are taking care of cats, particularly colonies and abandoned outdoor cats, to learn how they can get those cats fixed and get the tiny kittens out of there and into homes.

2. Second, we advocate and educate so that those who don't understand the availability of new programs for spay-neuter and the damage done by breeding pets can learn how they can be part of the solution. Sometimes this means advocacy with government managers or cat rescue groups.

Loving Cats. Magical, beautiful, innocent cats – whether they are feral or someone's pampered pet. Who will speak for the cats? We will.

Theresa has trapped more than 800 cats for spay, neuter and return programs in South Florida in the last 7 years. She has expertise in trapping difficult to catch cats, working with recalcitrant and argumentative involved persons, presenting pro-feral cat positions before federal and local government bodies, dealing with lawyers working on court cases involved cats (such as the famous civil law fight over BigToes in Key West several years ago).

She keeps a small sanctuary for a dozen or more rescue cats that have been difficult to place in private homes because of behavioral problems or simply that they never reversed their fearful, feral psychological temperament.

She founded the Key West Cat Society and Venice Cat Coalition to provide a small non-profit rescue aimed at making a big impact on the local level in the Key West and Venice, Florida, areas, where she maintains homes.
