HISTORY:

ABOUT:

Disney is ready to walk right into your home like he owns the place. We're pretty sure he'll take over your heart in the same manner. This super friendly, social boy is like having a dog without all the hassle. He has a deep, throaty purr befitting a cat his size. There's almost never a time where he doesn't want pets and attention - sometimes he'll literally throw himself at your feet and roll over to encourage you to reach down and give him a massage. Sometimes, he'll paw at your lap when you're sitting down so you can pick him up and give him a hug. Unlike most cats, he doesn't seem to have a spot that is "off limits". Disney isn't shy with strangers, so he's likely to make instant friends with any visitors you have over. He also does well with other cats, but sometimes he tends to push their buttons (he can't help it - he just has no respect for personal space), but isn't aggressive.

Now, there is one more thing you should know. Disney has tested positive for FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus), but this will not prevent him from living a long, happy life. The disease can only affect felines and is rarely spread to altered, friendly FIV-negative cats. It cannot be spread by sharing litter boxes, food dishes, playing or grooming. Transmission is only possible through deep puncture wounds (think non-neutered male cats fighting over territories) - again, Disney is a lover not a fighter, and is not the type to get into these types of serious scuffles with another friendly housemate. Additionally, he does not require any medicine for his condition, but since his immune system is a bit more suppressed than normal, he has the potential to get sick easier. For indoor cats, this is generally a non-issue as he will not be exposed to diseases and viruses in the safety of his home. Don't be scared by the myths people (and even some veterinarians!) spread about FIV. Take your time and do the research, and make your own decision about whether adopting an FIV cat is right for you if you have other felines at home.

Disney also has a heart murmur, but he is asymptomatic and has been cleared for adoption by our cardiologist.

More about this rescue

Lulu’s Locker Rescue is a nonprofit, volunteer-run companion animal rescue working to bring to light the plight of black cats and dogs in shelters as well as the misconceptions surrounding FIV cats. We aim to lower the euthanasia rate of these animals by educating the public and providing foster care as we seek out permanent homes. We are committed to the protection of the misjudged and wrongly stereotyped through compassion and respect, which we believe both animals and human beings deserve.

We are based out of Frankfort, IL, and rescue cats and dogs in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
