My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

GERTIE IS IN OUR SENIORS FOR SENIORS PROGRAM. Her adoption fee is waived for anyone age 65+.

Meet the most loving, grateful cat ever. Gertie was the victim of neglect, abandoned in a taped-up cardboard box outside. She was naked, without any fur. Her skin was covered in urine burns. She had urine scald on her paws and legs. All from having fleas and not being treated for them. Although she's perfectly healthy now, she walks with a wobble, most likely from being kept confined in a very small space and from having all four paws declawed. Her wobble does not effect her though. She's not in pain and she's able to jump, climb and do stairs without issue. This sweetheart, who loves every person she meets, is so incredibly deserving of a lifelong, loving home. Please give her a chance to steal your heart. It won't take more than a few seconds.

The great news is that after all she's been through for who knows how long, Gertie Birdy is all healed up and ready to move on to her true forever home. She's had all the lab bloodwork you could imagine and she is in absolutely fantastic health. No kidney issues, no liver problems, no diabetes, nothing. Gertie is roughly 13 years old. She has the most laid back, loving demeanor. She wants nothing more than to snooze in a nice cozy cat hut bed and dream of her future family.

When she's up and about, Gertie likes to just meander around the house in search of her people. She loves to cuddle up on your lap and slam her head into whatever is available to indicate she would like affection. If she determines she's not getting enough attention, she will gently paw at you for more. She's a chatty girl who likes to chirp and talk to you, but is otherwise happy just lounging the day away.

Although she can coexist with other cats, Gertie would prefer to be the only animal in the house so she can soak up all the attention and love. Due to her severe flea allergy, Gertie will need to be kept on regular monthly flea prevention for life. Gertie only has about four teeth left, but she eats both dry and wet food with absolutely no issues. Gertie has a long and healthy life ahead of her and she wants to share it with you. Overall, if you are looking for a very laid-back, easy-going, cuddly senior girl, Gertrude would absolutely love to meet you! Apply today! Adoption fee: $75. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip and 30 days of free pet insurance.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of cats is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable cats, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each cat or kitten as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our cats based on personality, not by breed label.

Adoption Process: Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
