My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I'm Lewie, a male Yellow Naped Amazon. I'm active and curious.
Like most parrots, I'm smart, social and need lots of care and attention. We'll need to become friends before I come home with you.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Avian Rescue Corporation is a bird rescue with several hundred birds of various types. We recommend you visit to see the various type of birds and see which one seems to fit best with your desires. We have Macaws, Cockatoos, Amazons, Congo African Greys, Cockatiels and some others. We prefer a visit any time between the hours of 11:30AM and 1PM any day (we have no weekends nor holidays), just call a day or so in advance for an appointment. Our address is 1212 Saint Elizabeth Ct., Concord, CA.

Our adoption process is basically simple: you come in for an interview where we discuss your knowledge and experience with a bird, and then you get to meet the birds. Depending on the type of bird you are interested in, you may need to make several visits here to get into the bonding process with the bird. You then complete an adoption form, pay an adoption fee which varies by bird type (and is established by going on line and finding out the sales prices for that type of bird, then dividing it by 1/2). The adoption fee for a Macaw is typically around $700-750. The bird is then brought to your home for a bird safe checkup and to see the cage the bird will be housed in. If everything is OK, then the bird is left and the process is complete.

More about this rescue

Companion birds are one of the preferred pets in the USA. Not all pets receive good care and a loving home. Established in 2001, ARC has expanded to rescuing and providing a sanctuary for all types of birds. Thousand of birds are abandoned or lost annually; ARC provides care and rehabilitation until ARC can find them a new and caring home. Domesticated birds have little to no chance of survival in the wild. ARC has helped hundreds of birds by picking them up from animal shelters and individuals that can no longer provide a good home for their birds.
ARC is a Non-Profit, Public Benefit Corporation with IRS 501(c)(3) Tax Exemption status. Funding comes from donations, adoption fees, or grants. 100% of all donations go to food, medical expenses, and the care and rehabilitation of our birds. ARC is a no kill facility.

ARC is an approved participant in the United Way of the Bay Area Campaign, the California State Emplyee's Charitable Campaign, the Local Independent Charities of America (LICA), and the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC #64924). ARC has been granted the "Best In America Seal of Excellence".
