My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ISO: A permanent or foster home with welcoming laps and calm play!

Barbie was rescued as a stray by our local shelter, but was chosen to participate in a very special program called H.A.L.T. In this program (more about the program below), she bonded with several teenage trainers who taught her basic obedience.

During her month of training, Barbie welcomed all the love the humans around her had to give. She learned many basic obedience commands, but excelled on the agility course. Barbie can be a little timid on her leash and shuns noisy environments. However, she never turns down the opportunity for a hug or cuddle!

Barbie would be happiest in a household where she is the only dog or has a smaller-size playmate. She is still easily overwhelmed, but she continues to work with the staff at The Bark, where she is participating in their board and train program. The trainers there are totally in love with her, saying only yesterday, "She got lots of snuggles and enrichment toys to keep her busy ❤️ her hugs make everyones day!"

Details: Boxer/hound mix. Young, around 7 months. Approximately 39 pounds. Fully vetted & vaccinated, spayed female, partially obedience trained.

Located in Knoxville, TN, H.A.L.T. (Humans & Animals Learning Together) is a non-profit program that provides therapeutic intervention for at-risk adolescents through a series of dog obedience training classes. With the help of adult volunteers, kids teach the dogs basic obedience commands, providing therapeutic intervention for the student trainers while increasing the adoptability of shelter dogs. The dogs are adopted into suitable homes after the class is complete.
