My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It's hard to imagine that sweet-as-can-be Ruthie was found on the streets, very pregnant and with a bullet wound to her face. Now that Ruthie has raised her ten puppies and sent them all off to wonderful forever homes and that Ruthie herself has healed, it is her turn to find her very own happily ever after.

In short, Ruthie is a 49 lb "puppy". Between her adorable puppy dog eyes to her extremely playful personality, 4-year-old Ruthie has a true zest for her newfound life. In her foster home, Ruthie is learning all of the ins and outs of this whole "inside life" thing. She is well on her way toward mastering verbal cues and hand signals for basic commands as well as her name. Ruthie is doing well with crate training, and her foster humans are continuing to work with Ruthie on housebreaking. There is just so much to learn for a former street dog who is new to the good life!

Ruthie's two favorite things are playing and hanging out on the couch. When it comes to playing, Ruthie brings lots of energy to the table, so any potential playmates must be prepared. Ruthie is still learning when "enough is enough", so any potential canine siblings will need to help Ruthie learn when it's okay to play and when playtime is over. And as for the couch, well, can you blame the girl for wanting to chill out in such a comfy spot after everything she has been through?

Ruthie is looking for a forever home with patient humans who understand that the good life is a big transition for a former street dog. Ruthie is eager for her forever humans to continue to work with her on her house manners. She promises that she will reward them with a lifetime of love, laughs, and snuggles.

More about this rescue

The Street Dog Project is comprised of a small group of volunteers who are passionate about saving street dogs in Dallas, TX. The majority of our team was previously heavily involved at another local street dog rescue but left for various reasons over the years. We wanted to save more lives so "got the band back together". We are an experienced team of rescuers, operating under a new name.

We have a lot of experience capturing elusive street dogs and helping them adjust to life in a loving home.

The dogs are taken to the vet upon rescue so they can be examined, dewormed, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (and treated if positive) and attend to any other medical needs. Life on the streets is tough so a lot of the dogs we take in have beyond basic medical needs. Heartworm, mange, leg and eye injuries are some of the most common medical conditions we encounter.
We are an all-volunteer organization and rely on donations to save lives. Donations can be made by clicking the "donate now" button on our Facebook page or visiting www.thestreetdogproject.org. Thanks for your support!
