My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Original Intake Date: 8 October 2023 ----- Adopted 21 October 2023 ----- Returned to Rescue: 30 January 2026 ----- Age at Original Intake: 11 months ----- Breed: Golden Retriever/Poodle mix ----- Size: 55 lbs ----- Status: owner surrender ----- Compatible with: Dogs, cats, children. ----- Suitable for: home with a fenced yard, no exceptions ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: Requires regular grooming ----- Additional Notes: ✨ Meet Jinx ✨Jinx is a beautiful, bright-eyed girl with a joyful spirit and a whole lot of heart. She originally came to For Belle’s Sake Rescue at just 11 months old after being surrendered by a family that realized that a young, exuberant puppy and toddlers were not the easiest combination. Jinx wasn’t doing anything wrong… she was just being a happy, bouncy puppy.

At intake, Jinx needed some extra care. She was underweight, severely matted, and had never experienced grooming before (and yes… she was very funky). After a much-needed groom and medical care to treat a skin infection caused by matting and buildup, Jinx began to shine—inside and out. Beneath it all was a happy girl with a kind, eager-to-please heart.

Jinx was adopted shortly after on October 21, 2023, but life changed again when a new baby arrived in the home. With less exercise, stimulation, and routine than she was used to, Jinx struggled. Like many young, intelligent dogs, she found ways to entertain herself—counter surfing, chewing, stress behaviors, and indoor accidents followed. The family did the right thing and honored their adoption contract, and Jinx returned safely to rescue on January 30, 2026. Do we wish she had a forever home? Yes. But if not, we want them back with us while their journey continues. Not abandoned, not bounced around or sold, not dropped at a shelter.

The good news? Jinx is back, safe, healthy, and thriving. She’s at a great weight, has a beautiful coat, and is ready—truly ready—for her forever home.

Jinx is a high-energy, people-loving girl who thrives on attention, interaction, and activity. She knows basic commands like sit and lay down and is very treat-motivated, making her a great candidate for continued training. She does wonderfully with other dogs, cats, and children, and she absolutely loves being outdoors.

Because Jinx has energy to burn and a love for play, a secure, physically fenced yard is a must—no exceptions. She needs space to run, explore, and be her happy, active self. Regular grooming will also be required to keep her coat healthy and comfortable.

Jinx is not a “bad dog.” She’s a young, smart, affectionate dog who needs structure, consistency, and an active home. The basics needed for all dogs. She is an incredible companion.

If you’re looking for a loving, playful, loyal best friend and are ready to give her the exercise, routine, and forever commitment she deserves—Jinx just might be your girl. 💛🐾

BELLE'S STORY
Belle, a dog rescued by Christian and Shelby, sits in the field where she was found in Sumter S.C., April 1, 2012. Belle suffered alone in the field for five days; she was malnourished and had open wounds and fire ants across her body before the family rescued her. She died hours after being rescued. In honor of her, the couple started “For Belle’s Sake Rescue and Rehabilitation,” an animal rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and pet watching service.

In honor of a particularly memorable rescue, a dog named Belle, Christian and Shelby started "For Belle's Sake Rescue and Rehabilitation," an animal rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and pet watching service. Belle was a pit bull mix, or pibble.

Belle passed away April 1, 2012, hours after being rescued. She died from complications resulting from maltreatment. When the Birds received a call to rescue her, she was in critical condition. They found her on the side of a road, malnourished, with open wounds and fire ants on her body. "We got a phone call in the late afternoon about a dog who had been hit by a car," Shelby explained. "A woman was at a stop sign, looked over into a grassy field and saw a head peering over the grass. So she walked out into the field and found Belle laying there."

"Belle couldn't stand and was surrounded by cans of dog food and chicken. She was covered in red ants, which had to have been very painful. We brought her home and set her up in a crate. When we carried her into the house, I flipped her over and her wounds were terrible," she continued. "We immediately called an EMT to come evaluate her since the nearest after hours vet clinic was in Columbia at the time. It was then that I named her Belle."

"She had two shattered back legs, a broken back, all of the skin and muscle was missing from her hind legs from road rash, and she was in organ failure," Shelby explained "We knew if we tried to save her, it would be a long and painful process and she more than likely would not survive it. She needed blood transfusions and both hind legs amputated. The EMT said she was in shock and her body was shutting down.""He said her wounds appeared to be at least five days old," Shelby said. "Meaning she suffered that duration alone in excruciating pain."

"Someone knew she was there because they were trying to feed her," she continued. "But no one helped.""The entire time he was evaluating her, her tail was wagging," she said. "I knelt before her, held out my hands, and asked a very simple question. 'Belle, what do you want?'"She rested her head in the palm of my hands and closed her eyes," she explained. "Her breathing got slow and she told me she was ready to go."
