My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

ROUGE is one of the “Fab Four” we saved from being euthanized at the Pound. The only reason that was going to happen to her was because they needed the space to bring in more unwanted or dumped dogs. She’s spayed, microchipped and vaccinated including rabies. She is a beautiful girl but definitely high energy and looking for an experienced Shepherd owner.

ROUGE has both beauty and brains and a very smart, loving girl who craves attention. Her favourite place to be is right beside you on the couch so she can get snuggles and belly rubs. She does need lots of exercise to help burn off that energy so she’s definitely looking for an active family who can give her the exercise she needs, take her on trail hikes and lots of adventures. She travels well in a vehicle and gets excited when she knows going in it. A fenced in yard is required for her as she loves to run around in one and chase out the squirrels, raccoons, chipmunks, well let’s just say any creature that dares to land in her yard. She does need a fenced-in yard as she does love to run around and play outside. She hasn’t met a cat but we’re advising no cats in the home due to her high prey drive. She has a 6yr old child in her foster home and they get along great. The little boys favourite thing to do with her is lead her around the house on her leash. She takes it all in her stride and just follows behind him just like his little shadow.

ROUGE is crate trained and will sleep soundly in it at night. She’ll also go in it during the day and nap while left alone. She’s housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go out to the bathroom. She’s a very social girl and loves to chase and run around with the other female dog in the home so she would do well with a fur sibling in the home. The dog will need to be calm and not get too worked up with an energetic dog like Rouge around. She does have a high prey drive so we’re not recommending she be with cats.

ROUGE is very strong so leash walking was a challenge at first but after being introduced to a Halti, she’s doing amazing and walking right beside her foster like a good girl. She can be reactive to other dogs when out walking but she is now learning that if she doesn’t bother them then they won’t bother her. We do recommend obedience/leash training for her and this will be beneficial for both Rouge and her new owner as it will help them bond.

If you are interested in meeting ROUGE then please put in an application to meet her.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
