My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Who's a good boy? I am!!! My name is Shane and I'll steal your heart and also your side of the bed! LOL!

I will do anything for treats so I know that I'll learn fast! Food and toys are my faves so if I show some behaviors that you don't like, you can easily distract me when you're teaching me how to have good manners.

I had a rough start in life and was found running around on my own. I want a family who will care for me my whole life and I promise to do everything I can to be the best boy ever!

If you think your dog would like romping around with me, bring them and the whole family to meet me! I would be ok in a home without other dogs if you promise to play with me a lot!

If you would like to meet me, please submit an application for me on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. I am neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. My adoption fee is $300, which covers all of the medical care I have received.

**Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

Additional adoption info

FMAR is an no-kill 501 C 3 tax-exempt all breed dog and cat rescue, and like you, we are concerned about the welfare of the animals and the families that adopt them. We will require paperwork to be filled out and a consultation with the entire family before an animal is adopted. Interaction with any other dogs in your care and everyone living in the household is required. We reserve the right to deny any adoption that we feel is not safe or comfortable for either the animal or potential adopter.
Our adoption costs vary, but all include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, and a negative heartworm (dogs) or negative FIV/FeLV (cats) test.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

All of our adoptable animals are housed on site. We are by appointment only and require an application to be on file before coming to adopt our pets. We also take animals to the Westland Petco for meet and greets. Every Saturday, barring holidays, we are open to the public for meet and greets with our adoptable cats and dogs. An application is required after the meet and greet, should you find an animal you'd like to add to your family.

More about this rescue

Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that began back in April 2003. Our founders bought a 6-arce property to build the shelters and the dog play yards. One small building grew into three over the years. We now have designated places for our adoptable dogs, cats, and our stray dog populations. To assist with the growing feral cat population, we have a TNR program. We also help people in times of need with our pet food bank. We have recently added on a clinic and a store. FMAR is ran on donations from the public and from our yearly fundraisers. Without our generous supporters, we could not do the work we do for the Belleville, Sumpter, Van Buren Twp., and other surrounding areas. We pride ourselves in being a part of our community and giving back wherever we can.
