My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stu has really adapted to life in Center City while in foster care!

Stu is great on walks and has learned to mostly walk by your side and check in with you every now and then. She is a voracious sniffer while on walks- she is always eager to sniff and see what's happened since her last walk and is always on the lookout for a tasty snack that someone might have left for her. She loves to get her dose of greens and has some favorite grass and weeds that she'll nibble on. She has always been interested in playing and meeting other dogs, but has now learned that she doesn't have to excitedly meet every dog she sees on the streets. She's a very strong girl and definitely hit the gym in her past life- every now and then she'll get a little too excited to see a dog or a squirrel/cat and will pull, but eventually does calm down after some re-direction. She is still a little tentative with certain situations (people walking out their front doors, slow walking people, people carrying bags and wearing large hats) but once re-directed is off to sniffing again. Grass and open fields tend to give her the zoomies and it would be awesome for her to live in an area where she could run freely and explore nature.

At home during the day, she loves to lay on the couch and sunbathe outside. She's got a handful of toys that she'll play with on her own but loves to play tug, her squeaky toys, and a good peanut butter Kong. Stu is crate trained and knows to cozy up in the corner of her crate when it is time for bed. She's been okay staying at home outside of her crate in a dog-proofed house for longer periods during the day. No regular accidents in the house (unless she's sick).

Stu is an adoption event veteran and loves when people give her treats and attention, but is still sometimes prone to getting a little overexcited, jumpy, and a little mouthy with new adult strangers. She's been pretty good with meeting kids at these events although she hasn't lived with kids for an extended time. She's been great with other dogs at events and has cohabited with other dogs during past foster stays. A trial period stay at a home with children might be a good idea, but an active adult only no cat household will probably be the ideal situation for her."

ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions.
