My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for a dog with all the love and excitement you could ever ask for, all wrapped up in a little package? Meet Dragon, who is just as full of energy, loud snorts and thoughtful forehead wrinkles as her name suggests!

Dragon takes a little while to feel comfortable with a new home and people, but once she's gotten to know you, she'll quickly show her playful and high energy side. Dragon loves toys, especially ones she can chew on and destroy- but she's a good girl who won't chew anything except the toys you give her. She'll also make sure that wherever you go, she follows close behind, to climb up on you and cuddle if possible. She'll settle down and curl up nearby after a while, but ignoring her for what she thinks is too long will earn you a sad huff and one of her trademark withering stares.

Dragon loves to meet new people- a little too much sometimes, as she still tries to go up to and jump on people in public. She also is friendly and outgoing towards other dogs, and unlike with the new human friends she meets, she has been a very polite lady when meeting other dogs. She prefers to take frequent walks, but does have some trouble with pulling and walking alongside you, and would benefit from someone who can keep training her to walk on a leash as well as to not be over friendly with strangers. Fortunately she is a quick learner- she came from the shelter housebroken and knowing the command "sit, and has learned "wait, "paw, "off (useful for when she keeps trying to climb on you to chew her toys) and "go to bed- which is her signal to go into her crate, which she has no trouble staying in at night and when you need to leave her at home. She is very motivated by food and treats- also a little bit too much, as she will try to beg, sneak or jump up to steal your food. She hasn't been given any human table food, but hasn't given up hope yet.

In short, Dragon is a little pup with big feelings and would love to be part of your home, especially if you're frequently at home to take her on walks and have a little patience to keep working on her training

More about this shelter

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement. Other exciting ACCT Philly programs include a food pantry for low-income pet owners, a vibrant volunteer program, trap-neuter-return for community cats, a unique Pen Pal program to assist dogs at risk … and so much more!
