My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sofia has been through a lot in her short life at no fault of her own. Her rescuer took in Sofia's mom and kittens off the streets in Kuwait. Her family was raised among dogs and cats, making her a very confident girl! Sofia has a small, petite frame and is the only white and brown calico cat in the litter.

Sofia has overcome so much at a young age. She had 2 seizures at her first adopted home. Her seizures are now controlled by medication. Despite this, she is so chipper, active and forgiving. She is truly a fighter. The only noticeable signs are that she becomes a little sleepy 30 minutes after receiving her medication and her coordination is a bit wobbly while playing with a string toy.

She gets along fabulously with a house full of 5 cats in her current foster home. She sleeps next to them and is very confident, even curling up in front of the alpha cat of the group. She has a gift of fitting in wherever she goes.

Her favorite thing to do is race up and down the stairs. We call her the water inspector as she races from each water bowl to the next around the home! She has the funniest chirps as she moves around with excitement. Being so quick, her favorite toy is the laser pointer. She loves doing sprint work - it is right up her alley! After playtime, Sofia enjoys sleeping on a bed or stretching out on a heated floor or bed.

Sofia would be a great addition to a family who can appreciate her funny little quirks and give a special needs girl a safe space to call her own. However, she should not be adopted into a home with young kids; gentle teenagers would be fine. She would also be great with a confident cat. She won't compete for your attention but loves to be in the mix!

Sofia's estimated birthdate is April 2021. She is current on her vaccinations, spayed and microchipped, and tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

At the adoption fairs, if you meet a kitten or cat that you want to adopt, you will be asked to complete an application and contract and leave a check for the adoption fee ($120 for an adult or $145 for un-neutered kitten of which $50 is a deposit that is refunded after you provide 4Paws proof of sterilization). We ask that you pay the adoption fee up front at the fairs in order to “put a hold” on the cat until your application is processed. If your application is not approved, your check is returned to you.

Neither cats nor kittens are sent to their new homes on the day of the fair. It usually takes 4-5 days to process the application before the cat can go to his or her adoptive home. Pre-approval is an option, though. To accelerate the adoption process, you can fax a completed application and contract to us at 703-560-9795 a few days before the fair. Adoption Applications are available on this website.

Go meet their pets

Adoption fairs are held once or twice a month at various PETCO stores in Northern Virginia. The adoption fairs are usually held on Saturday’s from 1:00 to 5:00. Between 30 and 60 cats and kittens are shown for adoption at each fair—with the larger fairs generally occurring April through October.

While they are waiting to find permanent loving homes, our cats temporarily live in foster homes. The foster families bring the cats and kittens to the adoption fairs to be seen by potential adopters. Applicants have the opportunity to handle the cats and in some cases, meet the foster parents who can provide additional insight into a cat’s habits and personality.
