My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, we’re Bodhi and Dalton!   We’re two bonded 4 year old brothers looking for a safe forever family, after having been through a lot of changes in our short lives. We were adopted as kittens, but through no fault of our own, we were returned to the rescue several months ago.  We have been through a lot of tough changes, and when we came back to BTKR we were pretty scared and confused.  Our helpers have been working hard with us, to help us feel secure and confident again.

BODHI:  I’m the more confident (and bigger!) of the brothers.  I’m a pretty chill guy, and I’ll happily accept pets, and being picked up for snuggles, once you’ve earned my trust.  I like wand toys, yummy food, and cozy, fluffy beds for cat naps.  *I have had some issues with urinary straining which resolved with some food changes, but I will need to be carefully monitored by my new family in case those issues return.  Keeping me on a wet food diet is recommended.  My helpers will talk with you more about how to monitor me, if you’re interested in adopting me!

DALTON:  I’m the more shy and nervous of the two of us.  I’ll need longer to warm up than my brother, and while I like pets, I’ll still sometimes get nervous and dart away.  It’s not personal, I’m just still learning to feel secure again.  I LOVE playing—bring out a wand toy, and you’ll see me transform from shy guy to wide eyed, confident, leaping tiger!  I also like cozy beds to nap in.

We gorgeous boys will need a home without other male cats, as Bodhi does not get along well with males (other than Dalton).  We seem to interact well with female cats, with proper introductions, of course.  We don’t know if we like dogs or not.  We definitely need a very calm, quiet home - adults only, with very patient adopters who are willing to go at our pace, and who understand that it will take time and consistency for us to feel secure in our new home.  Our helpers can assure you, we are well worth the effort!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an adoption application to learn a bit about the home our cats will be going to and the family's motivation for adoption and expectations about pet ownership. We also have an adoption contract, which includes a no declawing and indoor-only clause along with a vet promissory note that ensures you will continue with the medical care and spay/neuter if needed.

We DO NOT do any out of state adoptions except on the NC border on a case-by-case basis.

We require a donation of $120 for adoption of unaltered kittens with a PTV Contract. All kittens receive vaccine series and wormings as well as medical treatment as needed. The adopter is responsible for obtaining their rabies vaccine and spay/neuter if the kitten is not of age at the time of adoption. We can provide resources for low cost clinics that offer these services.

We ask a donation of $25 to adopt Career/barn cats.

We require a donation of at least $140 for adoption of Spayed/neutered cat.

Bonded pairs adoption donation is $200.

Sometimes we require rental checks or home inspections. We always have a Meet n Greet to make sure everyone gets along. We encourage bringing the whole family!

More about this rescue

Our mission is to improve the lives of displaced cats and reduce feral cat population in Hampton Roads by socializing outdoor-born and feral kittens for adoption into loving forever homes. We are a VDACS registered 501c3 nonprofit, founded in 2014 with over 60 foster homes.

Our heart is in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return of ferals), where cats are fixed, vaccinated, ear tipped, and allowed to live out their lives without reproducing. We are advocates for advancing legal and social acceptance of TNR in Hampton Roads. Our unique feral kitten socialization program has a 90% success rate in socializing feral-born kittens to become loving, in-home pets.

We are always seeking fosters, volunteers, transporters, and trappers to join our team!
