My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In spite of having a very tough start to his life, Toby is still hopeful that life will get better and there is a family out there who will love and care for him and give him the home he deserves.

He’s a very sweet but very energetic Lab Mix who has lived most of his life outdoors by himself due to his previous family having allergies to him. In spite of his limited socializing, Toby is eager to be with people and very eager to please them. He’s such a nice dog, we knew we could not just leave him where he was, so we brought Toby into our program as an owner surrender.

We knew we’d need help channeling Toby’s energy into constructive activities and training, so enrolled him into a local board-and-train. He has completed a 3 week board and train and would love to continue to learn more skills to show off his love for life. This program will also offer 2 training sessions for adopters so that they can continue helping Toby be the best pup he can be. Trainers report that everyone is falling in love with sweet Toby. He is working on leash manners, basic obedience, self-regulation and other skills that will make some adopter a very lucky person/family.

Toby’s perfect family is a strong, patient, active couple or person who enjoys walks, running or hiking.

Toby has shown that he is eager to please and very smart; he might even be a prospect for agility training and other dog sports. He would be happiest with a fenced in yard of his own to run and retrieve balls (and to chase the squirrels)! He loves to cuddle and thinks he's a lap dog! He is friendly towards other dogs but would be best with another large, energetic dog or as a single dog to get all the attention he deserves. NO cats. Children should be older as he is a large guy who doesn’t always realize his size and can accidentally knock over smaller children. He is crate trained and often goes in on his own for timeouts. While his foster mom works in the family room, he spends his time chewing on toys, begging for tummy rubs, and lounging in his bed.

This handsome boy is a about 90 lbs, neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on year-round prevention, and microchipped.

If you are interested in adding this handsome, super-smart, enthusiastic boy to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. BAARK is located in the NW suburbs of Chicago and adopts local to the area.
