My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jake the Hound, that is my name and likely my breed :) But I am so much more complex than the name implies... let me tell you my story....
I was born a poor hound boy, unloved and uncared for I was never taught what living life as a beloved member of a human family is. My mama was a stray who had pups and tried hard to get all of us to live, but with not enough food or safety, who knows how many of us survived...
SO, my life was sad and scary UNTIL I was RESCUED!!! By a CAT RESCUER, LOL!!
I lived in general splendor with my new kitty loving mama for a couple of years, I didn't have to socialize with many people because she was a pretty private person. However, I had food/love and a roof over my head so my life was good ;)
Fast Forward to 2022 when my kitty loving mommy suddenly passed away and my life became less predictable and "safe". I missed my kitty loving mama but ended up at the doggy loving rescue where my manners and socialization was turned on its head. But I LOVE the doggy rescuers :)
And FINALLY the "almost" bestest chapter of my life began.... I am living with a kitty loving FOSTER mom who ALSO LOVES DOGS :) And here I am, getting more social and relaxed every every day.
My life is so so sweet, I have kitties as FRIENDS (not food :)
I have a house that is quiet but not too quiet, I have a loving foster mommy and I have the opportunity to find the FUREVER HOME I have been looking for!!
For my family I need some special things, I need a relatively quiet and boring home, lol. I love kitties and other dogs are great but I need a slow introduction to them. If i have a confident and loving kitty or two, I would be happy!
I am not a fan of the young 'uns as their frenetic activity makes me awfully nervous- however, I am NEVER aggressive, just hide.
I will need patience and love, but I need to build confidence in my new home, that doesn't require the love but does the patience and short outings with lots of small wins!
I may never be your lap dog, then again I may!! I am like a blank canvas ready to paint your masterpiece. So get to picking out your favorite colors (hopefully houndy colors) and start painting!!!
I do have good manners, never jump on anyone, respectful of your space and love my crate and bed. Love the leash and LOVE to go in the car!!

Additional adoption info

Adoption application required.

Adoptions applications are checked by contacting references and veterinarians of those with pets to ensure our pups go to the best homes possible. We work hard to place dogs into the right families, but sometimes we realize the fit isn't quite working out for the adopter or the pet..

If an adoption does not work out and we have room to take the dog back into the rescue, we will. However, the sheer number of needy animals in TX usually means we become full quickly after the dog is adopted.

So, in those cases we will post the animal locally, and help the adopter screen applicants and facilitate finding another adoptive home for the pet in your area.

Go meet their pets

We are a TEXAS based rescue who transport regularly to this area. Our dogs are in TEXAS and will be transported to you if you adopt from us.

Our pets are posted on our website, and most live in homes with their fosters. We live with our foster dogs to get to know them in a home setting and to let them know that life can be good away from the streets.

We work to correct poor behaviors, teach manners and observe each dogs particular quirks and personalities so we can give accurate observations of the dogs you are interested in.

We know that dogs will sometimes behave differently with different people but we can give you our impressions of our pups and situations they have been in.
