My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CYRUS / 2yr 7mo / Male / Mixed breed / 44lbs - 20kgs / Rescued from Tennessee / Currently fostered in Guelph

Good with other dogs / Good with respectful kids / High prey drive / House trained

No medical concerns

Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I walk by again? Being from Tennessee, I already know I’m the only ten you see.

I’m Cyrus, but my foster mom calls me Mr. Handsome. I’m the king of snuggles and love being goofy with all my foster siblings - both two- and four-legged!

Check out some of me and my family’s adventures on my foster mom’s Insta page: http://www.instagram.com/fostrandmy3amigos

If y’all had seen me when I first arrived in Canada, you’d be so proud of how far I’ve come. It took me a while to trust humans and learn to wear a harness and walk on a leash. Now, hikes with my foster family are the highlight of my day! Being around other dogs helped me see how much fun humans can be, I love getting pets and giving kisses to show them how much I love them. I would love to go to a home with another doggy sibling so I'm not so lonely when you're gone and they would really help me be comfortable in my new life.

Don’t worry if I take a little extra time to come around and start frolicking in the yard like you see in my videos. Once I start to trust, I’ll be chasing toys, zooming around, and rubbing up against you for pets in no time! I do need a house with a fenced-in yard. That way I can do my business and get some exercise playing while I get comfortable with my surroundings, and my new family. All I need is someone with a little bit of doggy experience and a heart as big as mine.

I'm becoming known as a social butterfly around here. I love making friends with humans (who can respect my space and don't overwhelm me too quickly) and all other dogs! The more my family is home with me, the better! I'm totally fine being alone for some of the day but if you work from home, we’ll be best friends in no time. Now that I know what it’s like to be really loved, I don't ever want to give that up!

Do you have the space in your heart and your home to be my new family? All it takes to start is an application and someone from my super awesome support team (yes, they are all here for me), will be in touch soon. Apply today at caninehaven.org/dog-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application here (https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/).

Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 48 hours, please remember we are a 100% volunteer based organization, and many of us have full time jobs outside of rescue. We appreciate your patience.

Our priority is to ensure the fit is right for both you and the dog, we will reach out to your personal and veterinarian references (if applicable), and your landlord (if applicable). A virtual video or pictures of your place are required at the time of application.

You will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog. If after the meet and greet, you would like to proceed with adoption, we will review your application internally and with the foster and make a final decision.

More about this rescue

Formed in 2013, a small scale dog rescue located in Ontario. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run, foster home based.

None of our dogs are boarded in kennels upon arrival.

We are dedicated in rescuing dogs from the Caribbean, Mexico and North America as well as local surrenders.

We place dogs in loving, responsible and committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes.

We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement
