My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey you, yeah you, are you looking for someone to get you up off the couch and motivate you to get some exercise? Need a running buddy or a pal to take on those lovely Autumn hikes? Well my name is Barry, and I promise you I won't let you become one with the couch or forget to move your body. Want to know more about me? Well I'm a three and a half year old black lab/collie mix who is high energy. I'm about 50 pounds so I'm a really great size for most types of homes, and while I'd prefer to have a nice big yard to play in I could probably be okay in an apartment if I had a very active family that took me out to run and play frequently. I'm still learning my manners and will need someone patient who can work with me on basic training and who'll wear me out regularly. I'm crate and house trained. Once I'm worn out, I'm a big ol' snuggle baby who just wants to be loved and I LOVE cuddling at night if you'll let me... In return I promise to always be silly and make you laugh, keep you active, and to love you more than you've ever been loved in your whole life. Some of my favorite things include playing/wrestling with other dogs, chewing on chew toys and bones, and food! Treat motivated = easier to train, and with a firm hand I know I can be the best dog. I'm good with kids, they make me happy. I haven't yet met a cat to know how I'd do with them. So what do you say, ready to take home your next personal trainer/cuddle buddy/best friend? I'm ready-let's do this!

Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process.

All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Barry's adoption fee is $200. Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
