My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Barrett !! What a beautiful BIG hunk of a handsome cat, with his beautiful blue eyes, luxurious full coat and cute white mittens on all four feet. He's a character that will hang out with you while relaxing, and show you just how that's done, laying belly up all stretched out!

Here's what Barrett's family caregiver says about him:

"Barrett is a big loving, affectionate boy. He is very social once he becomes acquainted and comfortable. He tends to just sleep on the floor, in a chair, sometimes on his back, or on a bed. He's pretty simple in that regard. In past years Barrett has been very much a lap cat, although on his terms. He does not like being held, largely due to his size. He prefers his head and upper body being petted, rather than petting him past about mid body, as he can get nippy.

Certain sounds will sometimes startle him and he can become frightened. Toy wise, he's a sucker for laser pointers and not much else honestly. He goes crazy chasing it! Barrett is used to clumping standard cat litter (Scoop Away etc). He'd do best with a large Sterilite 35+ gallon sized container."

He tips the scales at about 23 lbs. and admittedly needs to be kept on a nutritious reduced calorie diet for attaining an optimum weight between 18-20 lbs. He is a very lovable big cat that needs someone experienced in feline weight management; including food portion control on a monitored feeding schedule. Daily exercise will also help Barrett, and a laser pointer is his "piece de resistance" for some fun chasing around.

Barrett is litter box perfect for urination, but does on rare occasion defecate near the outside of his litter box. This is believed to be due to his overweight condition and over feeding. We expect this to resolve once Barrett reaches an ideal weight range.

This very sweet, big boy does not readily accept being with other cats, so he would be best as an only cat. He is accustomed to being in a quiet home, without children, where someone is home most of the time. Barrett's owner is no longer able to care for him due to terminal health issues. He has been a wonderful, well loved pet and companion. We are seeking an adopter that has the quiet, loving environment, who will also provide him with the weight management he needs.

Barrett is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and eats dry food.

He currently lives with his owner in Sacramento.

Purebreds Plus cat Rescue (purebredsplus.org), serving Northern California, the San Francisco Bay Area, Oregon, and Northern Nevada, is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of purebred cats, kittens and other exceptional felines. We are a 501 (c)3 non-profit rescue group. Most of our beautiful felines come from Northern California Animal Shelters. One of our goals is to keep purebred cats from ever ending up in a shelter. We are happy to help you if you need to rehome your purebred cat. Often, we can offer advice if your cat is having behavioral problems, and you may end up keeping the cat. We do NOT ship cats. We will place cats out of area but you must arrange to come and meet your new friend in person.
