Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Duchess: Duchess is a 5-year-old hound mix who was originally rescued from South Carolina in 2022. She has a lovely balance of moderate energy and calm companionship, and she walks nicely on a leash, making her an enjoyable walking partner. Duchess is highly food-motivated, very responsive to treats, and already knows some basic commands, which makes continued training both rewarding and fun. Like many dogs who have spent time in a shelter environment, Duchess can show some barrier reactivity. This behavior is rooted in frustration, not aggression, and does not define who she is as a dog. In a quieter, home setting, these behaviors often lessen significantly as dogs decompress and feel secure. Duchess also prefers to eat her meals on her own and may resource guard her food. With simple management—such as feeding her separately—this is easily handled and allows her to feel comfortable and safe. Because of this, Duchess would do best in a home with older children who can understand and respect her boundaries. She can also be selective about her doggy friends, so proper introductions are important to ensure she gets along well with other pets. Duchess would be a great fit for an apartment or condo lifestyle and is ready to thrive in a stable home where she can relax, build trust, and show her true personality. With patience, consistency, and a loving environment, Duchess has so much to offer her future family.
