My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

“Hi, everyone! My name is Nate, but my foster mom affectionately calls me ‘Naked Nate.’ You see, my gorgeous mahogany sable coat was so terribly matted when I came into rescue that it had to be shaved off. That’s okay, though, because I’m really rocking this short look, don’t you think? It does feel so much better, and my fur is growing back nicely!

“You probably guessed that I haven’t had much care for a while. I don’t let that stop me from being a cuddly happy boy, though! I’m very good in the house and haven’t had any accidents in my foster home. Plus, I do great in my crate! I love to go in, lie down, and happily take a comfortable snooze a few times during the day, and I sleep all night without a peep. I’m just so thankful to be inside with a warm, soft bed! My foster mom also lets me on the couch so I can lay my head on her lap. It makes me smile so big!

“I do have a not-so-great habit that I’m working on: I just love to see what tasty things are on the kitchen counter! My foster mom says that’s called ‘counter surfing,’ and I’m trying not to do that so much now. But I do love to eat and have been working on packing on some healthy pounds since I got to my foster home! I don’t like to have another dog around my food bowl when I’m eating, though. I feel safer eating in another room, or in my crate. But I don’t mind when my human is close to me when I’m eating. I take treats very gently, and I don’t nip fingers.

“I was left outside a long, long time without much training. I do know the commands ‘sit,’ ‘down,’ and ‘shake,’ and I’d really like to learn more! Please be patient with me as you teach me what you want me to know. My foster mom says that I have the kindest eyes that she’s ever seen. That’s because I have so much love inside, and it’s ready to explode when I find my family!

“In my perfect home, I would be the only dog. Human attention and company are more than enough for me! I have met several kiddos, and I really liked them a lot! I would appreciate a yard to run in, and I really, really like playing with balls. Right now, everything is new to me and can be scary sometimes. I don’t have much experience walking on a leash yet, but with patience and kindness, I know I will become my very best Collie self!

Nate is being fostered in Ohio
