My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Little Miss Chanel`s story starts with her mother Fendi. Fendi came to us from Benton County. She was one of multliple horses in her group who were covered in burs and suffering from internal and external parasites. After arriving to Longmeadow, Fendi and the rest of her herd were started on our strict refeeding diet (due to their malnourishment) and seen by our veterinarians. Upon a routine pregnancy check, we found that Fendi was pregnant and due within the next few months. Due to their history of neglect, we knew the chances of her giving birth to a healthy foal were slim, so we monitored her closely and hoped for the best.

Then, on a chilly May morning, Fendi gave birth to a foal. To our excitement, the foal (a filly) was healthy and happy! She was named Chanel, and she warmed up to Longmeadow staff within hours of her birth. She did not have much choice, however, since Fendi began to display signs of `foal rejection` after Chanel`s birth. Whether it was due to her neglectful history or previous stress, we were unsure. We removed Chanel from Fendi for the safety of both mama and foal and began raising Chanel ourselves, feeding her the necessary milk and supplements she needed at her young age. Thanks to the care of our skilled staff and helpful veterinarians, Chanel grew up a happy and healthy filly. Although she did not have an equine mama taking care of her, she found a mother in all the other Longmeadow animals (and humans) that helped raise her as she grew up at the Ranch.

Now, after six months of lots of care and groundwork, Chanel is finally ready for adoption! Her adopter must have previous experience with baby horses, as she is still in her `learning years` and will need an experienced handler to continue her groundwork training. She is halter trained and is working on standing quietly for the farrier. Chanel has TONS of personality and is a joy to be around. She loves any attention from people that she can get and is the first to greet visitors at the fence of her pasture. This girl has a special place in the hearts of our staff, and we can`t wait to see where life takes her!
