My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**CHESNUT HAS BEEN ADOPTED!** Sweet, soulful puppy dog eyes, long, soft, velvety ears, and striking red coat combine with a charming, charismatic, jovial, and social personality to make one perfect pup! We are describing one of our newest rescues, Chesnut, an incredible young male Redbone Coonhound. He is estimated to be between 1 and 2 years of age and is a thin 38 pounds. An ideal weight for this guy is 50 pounds or so. Chessie was rescued from a backyard breeder in Kentucky with multiple other adult Redbone hounds and two litters of puppies when proper care was not being provided for them. It's no secret that we love our hounds here at Pal's Place, so when we saw this beauty in need, we knew we had to help. A less-than-ideal start in life has not hampered this boy's spirit, and the friendly, active, affectionate, goofy, and sometimes downright derpy personality Redbones are known for still shines through in Chesnut. He is currently in a foster home in Chicago, learning all about the comforts of home living and taking in the new sights, sounds, and stimulation of big-city living in stride. He's being fostered with several other dogs and enjoys the company of his new canine friends. Hounds are very social dogs and tend to do best in homes with company from other dogs and where their people are home more often than not. We think Chessie would love a home with another playful dog, but it's not an absolute requirement. Given his background, he had little to no training before his rescue, so a home that can commit to basic training and manners work will be the best match for him. Like many young dogs, Chesnut can still be jumpy and excitable in his greetings, and very small children may be bowled over by his enthusiasm, but he'd do fantastic with school-aged children looking for an enthusiastic playmate. He loves being busy and will be a great companion for an active, adventurous household. Once he has had her exercise for the day, he is more than happy to hang on the couch with his favorite people. He's a champion snuggler and will be a perfect buddy to cuddle up to with the approaching cold winter nights. He is crate-trained and does very well with his housebreaking when kept on a regular schedule.
He is generally quiet but can be vocal when crated or when excited. He does have the melodious bay that hounds are famous for, and while we think he has a lovely singing voice, close neighbors might not be as appreciative of his serenades. Because of this, we recommend a single-family home environment for him instead of a condo or apartment setting. Chesnut is vaccinated, microchipped, and will be neutered before placement. Her adoption fee to the rescue is $375. Chessie is in a foster home and can be seen by appointment only after an application has been received and approved.
