My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lia, Instagram Diva in the Making...

This stunning girl, approximately 2 years old, is a spayed 60 lb pittie/pointy eared blend. Lia is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and boasts a striking creamy-brindly coat, golden eyes and a radiant smile that is contagious!

While Lia excelled with dogs in playgroups at the San José shelter, she's decided that "in the real world" she likes her kind from a distance, but not so much on leash close up, or in the home. PACC has learned that her easy-going and flexible nature is more reserved for her human friends. That said, Lia walks nicely on leash and generally cannot be bothered by passing dogs, big or small. Between us, she's got kind of a *diva* streak going on and is hoping her new human(s) will spend time helping to grow her Instagram following. It's not unreasonable given she pretty much cannot take a bad pic!

Lia is a lover of strangers, and despite being an excellent deterrent at the door, truth be told, she's probably not going to protect your things, cause she can be instantly bought with treats and affection. She shows her love through enthusiastic tail whaps and one of the most wiggly butts we've come across. If you welcome her into your family, get ready for some tail-induced excitement and hold on to your drinks!

PACC seeks an active household that appreciates large, strong, and lively dogs, particularly those who cherish company on the couch. If you prefer a dog-free furniture policy, Lia might not be the perfect fit, as she thrives when the entire family is on the couch, with her in the middle (where else would a diva sit?!)

Kids in the home should be 10+ because little humans take a lot of time, dogs take time, and most families don't have time for both. Cats are not recommended.

Additional adoption info

We use a transparent adoption process, as follows:

-Completion of Adoption Application (*required)
-Phone call to answer any questions you may have
-Meet up (opportunity for you to meet the animal in their current setting)
-Short stay over (2-3 hour visit at your place to assess the right fit - PACC will bring the animal to you and will help with pet intros, as applicable)
-Adoption!

An exceptionally high number of potential adopters encounter situations that cause delays or lead them to change their minds about the animal, thus PACC is unable to put other adopters on hold to accommodate individual circumstances. We continue to invite ALL adopters through the adoption process, until the dog or cat is successfully homed. (In other words, even though you may have met the animal, PACC does not have the luxury of working exclusively with you, for the reasons outlined above). We will efficiently guide ALL potential adopters through our process and the family that completes the process first and is a good fit for the dog or cat will be given first consideration. Our main interest is being respectful of everyone’s time while transitioning our animals to loving permanent homes as quickly as possible.

More about this rescue

We are a group of former Peninsula Humane Society (PHS) volunteers and animal rescue advocates who have over 40 years combined experience in animal welfare.

Having worked extensively with the animals coming into San Mateo County's Coyote Point shelter, we have witnessed first hand the shortcomings of an outdated animal warehousing model.

PACC Board Members successfully encouraged the county to open the San Mateo County Animal Care & Control Contract for bid in preparation for the current contract ending in 2021 - something that has not been done for 69 years!
