My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Beautiful Wonder is 9yo, weighs 55lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped.  Wonder's guardian states:

"If you’re a dog person, and you want ONE dog, I have no doubt that Wonder will make a great pet. If you are aware of her vulnerability, which is that she can be reactive to certain dogs when they pass by on leash, you can manage her by keeping her focused with a treat or crossing to the other side of the street from the dog. You just need to pay attention.

Wonder is a very loyal, loving companion. She likes to curl up at your feet when you’re working, reading, or watching a movie. Sometimes she’ll put her head in your lap, look up at you, and want pets. She loves to give kisses and receive pets, pats, and scratches. She likes it when you talk to her. When you have guests, she is eager to greet everyone. She likes to be with you, and will usually lay nearby wherever you are. We haven’t allowed her on the couch, but we can tell she would love an invitation.

She likes to howl with the fire trucks. She has a youthful spirit and she is very playful - easy to get excited to play - throwing the stick, or a ball. She likes to swim, and will retrieve a retrieval toy from a stream or even from the ocean. She enjoys walks in the park, and foraging off-leash in parks when it’s allowed. She loves to walk with you or ride in the car - but she will ask you to partially roll the window down so she can do the dog thing and hang her head out of the window. She prefers walks to just being left to herself in a fenced yard. She doesn’t chew or destroy things. We think she would be happiest being the only pet in the house.

She does a special trick, in addition to “roll over”. If you ask her to sit, place a treat on her forehead and ask her to “wait”, she will look up at you with her beautiful eyes, and when you say “okay”, she’ll let the treat fall on the floor and eat it. She is nuts over pizza, but we don’t indulge her. She gets a crust as a reward sometimes."

Wonder's guardian explains why she has made the decision to rehome her:  Wonder has become increasingly needy for her guardian and jealous, but not to the point of hostility, with kittens being fostered in the household and her feline siblings.  She's even become agitated to the point she barks when her guardians are away, which alerts and/or concerns the neighbors.  Therefore, she would most likely be better off in a household as the only pet.

Wonder's guardian states the following regarding children:  Although Wonder hasn't lived with children, her guardian recommends her living with children, stating "She isn't provoked by children; she is curious and friendly".

Wonder's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Wonder hasn't lived with dogs, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating "Wonder is reactive to other dogs.  Some more than others.  She can pull pretty hard when on leash and provoked by a dog.  She has been able to take walks alongside other dogs.  She becomes reactive when they share space, though".

Wonder's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Although Wonder lives with cats, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating "She needs to be fed separately; she's a resource guarder.  She would prefer to get all the attention; she doesn't want attention going to the cats.  She's not angry or violent about it; she just pushes her way into the interaction".

Wonder's guardian describes her as:

Very active
Couch potato
Playful
Friendly
Likes to be touched
Affectionate
Indoor dog
Nervous
House-Trained
Crate-Trained
Likes men
Likes women

Wonder's guardian describes her ideal future home:  " Someone or a family that wants an affectionate dog that is also playful. A family that wants a well trained dog that loves people and attention.   Wonder knows a number of tricks.   She would not be a good candidate for a home with another dog. While she gets along with some dogs she can be very dog reactive. She has lived with cats, however expect the occasional normal cat dog conflict She would probably be best as the only pet."

More about this rescue

Rescue Well was founded by Christine Sandberg in Baltimore, Maryland in 2011. Since its launch, it’s grown from offering post-adoption support to the city shelter, to offering several programs across Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. Our Programs focus on improving the lives of both pets and its owners. We proudly serve without judgment or expectations and we strictly follow our Rescue Well Engagement Model: ENGAGE > EDUCATE > EMPOWER.

Our organization’s programs are run by volunteers who are actively engaged in front-line intervention, community support, shelter support, and re-homing services for all pets.
