Riley is a mix of Australian Kelpie and German Shepherd, meaning he’s incredibly smart, athletic, and deeply loyal. He thrives on structure, loves learning new things, and is happiest when he has a job to do—whether that’s mastering commands, going on an adventure, or simply being your steadfast companion.
🎓 Training Superstar
When Riley first came to Southpaw Rescue, he had never had any formal training. But with a month of dedicated work, he proved just how brilliant he is! He picks up new skills quickly, listens well, and genuinely wants to please his person. To help his new adopter start off strong, we’re even offering a one-on-one session with his trainer—you’ll be amazed at what Riley can do!
🏡 The Perfect Home for Riley
Riley is deeply affectionate with his person but can be a little cautious around new people. With proper introductions, he warms up and becomes a loving companion. A calmer home without frequent new visitors would help him feel secure.
While he is around other dogs in his foster home and can play well with them, Riley prefers one on one time with his person. He would do best as the only dog in the home. His perfect day includes a long walk or hike, a training session to engage his sharp mind, and then settling in for some well-earned belly rubs.
Riley isn’t a challenging dog—he’s a dog who thrives with the right person. If you’re an experienced dog owner who loves structure, adventure, and the unwavering loyalty of a truly special dog, Riley is ready to be your best friend.
Riley is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. He is crate trained. He walks well on leash, knows the command wait at a dog, knows "place", "focus", "wait", "come" and "leave it".
