Here's what the humans have to say about me:
There’s no place like home… let’s find Whiskey one!
Whiskey was born at BCAR three years ago, and sadly, while his five littermates and his mom were all long-ago adopted. Whiskey had a very severe case of Parvo and by the time he was healthy and ready for adoption, he was a big, growing dog and was just overlooked. He has had great care and extra love from our volunteers at BCAR, but he needs to be in a home. One of our volunteers invited Whiskey to visit her home for a couple of days. She reported back that he was a perfect gentleman! While being understandably nervous of household noises like the dishwasher, he was a quick learner when it came to couch time! He had no accidents in the house, slept well through the night, and enjoyed TV time. Another volunteer has been working with Whiskey on beginning agility training. You can check out their You Tube video. Bob has been working on various aspects of Whiskey's training several times a week for a while now and they have become best buddies. Bob has this to say about Whiskey: "I enjoy working with Whiskey because he is highly intelligent and has 'personality.' By that i mean he responds well to training/commands and picks up new tasks with ease. His 'personality' varies based on the circumstances. When he is let out of his kennel and goes into the office, he is a bundle of loving energy who adores attention and is genuinely excited to see the volunteers. While on walks to field training he is in high 'alert' mode ready for any situation. While in the dog park he is all silliness as he lies down in the pool to cool off. Also in the dog park, he is super focused on performing agility tasks and following commands to sit, stay and come. He can react to strangers and strange/unknown dogs if left to himself but can also remain relatively calm if on leash or held and told to leave whatever he perceives as a threat. One of his favorite things to do in the dog park is to climb on top of the picnic table, nuzzle up to me and let me massage his neck and shoulders (so much so that if I stop, he "nose bumps" me to keep going). He is a really good dog who needs time, training, compassion and understanding."
Whiskey needs to be an only pet but will make a loyal and loving companion for his people. He just needs a chance!!
All BCAR dogs are placed as indoor family pets. No electric fences, please. Visit pets every Saturday 11:00 am to 2:00 pm (706-268-1346) or visit our website for adoption information at www.bigcanoeanimalrescue.org.
