My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Willy is the best - he lives up to his name, and is very Sweet! Willy prefers a life of leisure and calmness. His foster parent said that after some acclimation time he started showing his sweet and affectionate side. He enjoys giving kisses, he loves being pet, and is treat motived! He has soft luscious fur and is always down to be brushed. Sweet Willy is a chatty cat and would love to hear all about your day! He prefers to be an only child so he can soak in all the love for himself, he is a very loveable soul! Just look at his adorable little face and squishy belly, how could you resist this gem! Willy will thrive best in a home without other animals and no small children. Sweet Willy does have some anxieties and will need a low stress home, but he will surly bring lots of love and joy into your home! With a senior cat, what you see is, for the most part, what you get when it comes to temperament and personality!

Sweet Willy is currently living in one of our wonderful foster homes while he looks for his forever home. Don't worry, adopting from foster is easy! Please fill out an application online or call the Adoptions Desk at 734-662-5585 for more information and to set up a meeting.

Additional adoption info

Thank you for considering adopting and saving a life! Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge you need to adopt while making the process a positive experience, so here are some things to know:

+ You must be at least 21 years of age to adopt at HSHV. We welcome all--from any county or state!

+ Prior to visiting an animal, you must complete an application. You can do this at the shelter, or save time by bringing a completed one with you by downloading it from our website at www.hshv.org/howtoadopt.

+ Some animals have special adoption requirements.

+ If you have a dog and wish to adopt another, we may require a dog-to-dog interaction.

+ Adoptions are first-come, first served and holds are limited to one 24-hour hold per family.

+ Please allow at least an hour if you plan on adopting. Bring your driver's license or other government-issued ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if it applies) and vaccination records for current pets.

+ Applications are accepted up until 15 minutes prior to closing.

+ Most adoptions are same-day, you'll take home your new friend!

When our animals go home, they've received an initial health check and have been:
+ Spayed/Neutered
+ Microchipped
+ Current on vaccinations (as appropriate to their age)
+ Dewormed
+ Feline Leukemia tested (kittens and cats)
+ Heartworm tested (adult dogs)
+ Temperament tested (adult dogs)

Every adoption from HSHV also comes with:
+ 30 day trial of pet illness & accident insurance
+ A discounted vet exam at the HSHV veterinary clinic
+ Access to our behavior helpline, free to adopters
