Westley is a medium energy, affectionate, 50 pound boy estimated to be 2 years old. Jolly ball, tennis ball and frisbee fetching are his passions. We don’t know his history before he arrived at the pound in late September, but due to his knowledge of commands, we think he was a house dog. Westley would do well as an only dog or with a submissive dog buddy. He needs time to get to know dog friends and gets along best with adult dogs. He is good with cats.
Westley’s biggest need is confidence building. He can appear disobedient when he pulls on the leash, barks at strange dogs and jumps to hug visitors. A trainer’s second set of eyes saw subtle stress signals and that he was overwhelmed. Smart dogs like him need to be told what to do before they feel the need to act on their own. Westley needs a positive reinforcement training program and a consistent routine. He will truly blossom when he knows his owner makes the rules and that he is safe.
Westley is a champion snuggler, knows many basic commands and keywords, is housebroken and crate trained. He would do best in a house instead of an apartment. He would love a yard for his beloved fetch and frisbee games and sometimes enjoys a bit of chase playtime with dogs he knows.
Westley is being fostered in the Kansas City area.
