My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Candy Cane is a Shih Poo, about 2 years old, who weighs around 10 pounds. She is very sweet and loving. She is crate-trained and house-trained. She is not a typical "yappy" small dog. She's very quiet in her crate. Candy Cane loves people and wants to be with her person but she doesn't insist on it. She rides quietly in the car. Candy Cane gets along with some low-energy (senior) dogs but is not friendly with the 1 year old in her foster home.

Candy was brought in as an emergency case to a local vet. She had been hit by a car and was in shock - almost dead. The vet wasn't sure they could save her but wanted to try. The family couldn't afford the medical expenses and released her to the vet. The vet had to amputate Candy's back leg but she survived the surgery and is able to move well with just 3 legs. She can run around the yard and when she's running, you wouldn't know she is a tri-pod.

Candy Cane would love to be the only dog in a home with someone who is home, more often than not.

We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at adoptions@earstexas.org requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. Your current or past dogs must be inside dogs who have been spayed/neutered and are on heartworm prevention.

All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.
