My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"To-by, or not To-by; that is the question."

We hope you say yes to Toby!

Toby is a cuddly, playful Black Mouth Cur mix who will let you put costumes on him with a smile on his face. He is both people-friendly and dog-friendly, and while he hasn't been formally introduced to cats or kids yet he's never shown aggressive tendencies while out and about. He doesn't even bark. He may be a bit hesitant to try new things like stairs and getting into cars, but if you scoop him up and put him where he needs to be, he'll stay calm.

Toby is working on getting housebroken, not pulling on the leash, and ways to show his affection without trying to kiss or nip at your face. He's making lots of progress with all of that in foster care, and he's very treat-motivated so it's relatively easy to train him. He already knew "sit", and he learned the "paw" trick in just five minutes. So smart!

If you're interested in adopting this cute, lively sweetheart, please email foster@laspca.org. He's been waiting patiently at the shelter since November, but now that he's getting some training a dog this cute will not last long!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The LA/SPCA pet adoption process includes meeting with a matchmaker to match your lifestyle with the perfect companion. You will spend time with any of the pets you think would be a great companion. You may even want to come back another day to make sure he is the one! All of our animals must be spayed or neutered before you can take them home. Sometimes your perfect companion has not had this procedure done, so please be patient with us if you have to come back to pick him up.

All of our animals have been spayed or neutered before they are released for adoption. We encourage anyone with animals to spay or neuter their pets.

More about this shelter

Chartered in 1888, the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA) is the oldest and most comprehensive animal welfare organization in the state. Our mission is to advocate for the animals of Louisiana by advancing their welfare, promoting their interests, and fostering the human-animal bond through innovative programs, education, and service.

The LA/SPCA is not a state, parish or city governed shelter. We are an independent 501(c)3 non-profit offering a broad range of services and programs including advocacy, legislative services, statewide cruelty investigations, sheltering, full-service animal control (Orleans Parish only), adoption, disaster response, education, and obedience programs.
