My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gus is a brave pup who was found in November 2023, abandoned on a street corner in Brooklyn. At just 35 lbs, he was emaciated, covered in dirt and blood, and left to fend for himself. Since then, Gus has made incredible progress in Rescue City’s care: Had his first bath, got vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered.

From his previous foster home: “We crate-trained him, house-trained him, and worked with a trainer to establish rules and boundaries. Gus learns so quickly when given the right tools. He’s great with other dogs, curious, sweet, and full of energy. He’s a puppy at heart with a love for life, walks, toys, treats, and cuddles. Gus is so enthusiastic and loves being near us, playing with our dog Ollie, and always following us around the house. His journey of adapting and learning, despite his difficult start, has been incredible. We are so proud of him!”

Unfortunately, Gus’ current foster family can no longer care for him, and he urgently needs a new foster or forever home. As a foster-based rescue, we rely on our community to help find Gus a place to go. A quieter area, outside the hustle and bustle of the city, might be ideal for Gus as he can get overstimulated. Having another dog to play with would also be beneficial to help him burn off his energy.

If you’re interested in fostering or adopting Gus, please note his adoption fee is aslo WAIVED, and he will receive a free training session with @clarityk9 , who has worked closely with him and is very fond of Gus!

If you can help, please email foster@rescuecity.nyc to foster, or apply to adopt!

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

The first step of the adoption process is to complete an adoption application in full at www.rescuecity.nyc. All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout the city. We do not have a physical location where we keep dogs.

More about this rescue

Rescue City is a no-kill, non-profit1 pet rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption organization. Our team of dedicated volunteers is based in Brooklyn, NY and serves the NYC metro and surrounding areas.

Our organization’s motto is: There’s a person for every dog, and there’s a dog for every person…it’s just a matter of time. This applies whether you are looking to adopt a pet, or would like to make a positive impact on the lives of animals. At Rescue City we believe it is our moral responsibility to defend the lives of abused, abandoned, and neglected animals.
We take on helpless stray and surrendered animals, as well as those at the top of the euthanasia list at local and international shelters. We place our rescues in nurturing foster homes while they rebuild their lives through physical and mental rehabilitation. Following a thorough – but hassle free – adoption process, our Rescues are placed in loving, responsible, and committed permanent homes. Every rescue is fully vetted and altered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated upon adoption. Our commitment to our rescues does not stop once the adoption paperwork is signed. We stress the importance of responsible pet ownership, and we educate our Fosters, Adopters, and community on what it means to be a good pet owner.
