My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Who WOULDN’T want to wake up to and come home to this face? Gus was found emaciated, covered in blood and scars on the streets of Bushwick. Gus is 11 Months Old, 55lbs, eager to learn and make his humans proud of him! He’s crate trained + house trained. He is fostered with another dog and loves the company. He’s still a puppy with a huge affinity for life, energetic, and playful! Gus has been working with @clarity.k9 and aced his training! His adoption fee is WAIVED and his adopters will also get one free training session to set him up for success in his new home.

Email inquiries@rescuecity.nyc with any Gus Questions! Apply to adopt Gus at rescuecity.nyc/adopFrom his foster moms: Gus was a stray when we found him in November 2023. He was 35 lbs, completely emaciated, covered in dirt and blood, and left on a street corner in Brooklyn to fend for himself. Over the past few months we have been on a total journey with Gus. He took his first bath, got vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. We crate trained him, house trained him, and have been working with a trainer through RC to establish ground rules and boundaries. Gus learns so quickly when he is given the right tools. He is great with other dogs, is curious and sweet and energetic. He is still such a puppy and has such enthusiasm for life, walks, toys, treats, and all the best dog things. He plays well with our dog Ollie, follows us around the house, cuddles with us on the couch, and always wants to be near us. His journey and ability to adapt and learn though everything, despite where he started from and with an unknown background is really great. We are so proud of him!

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

The first step of the adoption process is to complete an adoption application in full at www.rescuecity.nyc. All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout the city. We do not have a physical location where we keep dogs.

More about this rescue

Rescue City is a no-kill, non-profit1 pet rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption organization. Our team of dedicated volunteers is based in Brooklyn, NY and serves the NYC metro and surrounding areas.

Our organization’s motto is: There’s a person for every dog, and there’s a dog for every person…it’s just a matter of time. This applies whether you are looking to adopt a pet, or would like to make a positive impact on the lives of animals. At Rescue City we believe it is our moral responsibility to defend the lives of abused, abandoned, and neglected animals.
We take on helpless stray and surrendered animals, as well as those at the top of the euthanasia list at local and international shelters. We place our rescues in nurturing foster homes while they rebuild their lives through physical and mental rehabilitation. Following a thorough – but hassle free – adoption process, our Rescues are placed in loving, responsible, and committed permanent homes. Every rescue is fully vetted and altered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated upon adoption. Our commitment to our rescues does not stop once the adoption paperwork is signed. We stress the importance of responsible pet ownership, and we educate our Fosters, Adopters, and community on what it means to be a good pet owner.
