My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FIV+

Birthday: January 21, 2023

It's that damn smile... You have to admit that Pumpernickel knows how to turn a frown upside down with that smirk of hers!  Her grin is one of her most intriguing and loving characteristics that make her stand out from the rest.  That, and she tends to make the silliest faces!  After having to life outside to fend for herself, Pumpernickel can say for certain that she's seen it all.  And, really, the only thing a kitty can do is stare right back at life's misfortunes and laugh it off.  However, it can take a little bit for her to get to that mindset.

As stated previously, Pumpernickel was living outside as a stray under a porch.  She wasn't alone as another kitty, Baguette, who she would eventually befriend was living under that same deck along with her two kittens, Croissant and Pretzel.  Pumpernickel acted as a sort of surrogate parent for Baguette's children, and they all lived in harmony.  Once the four were found by rescuers, they were quickly taken to LCCR to be fostered.  During the time that they kitties were being examined by a veterinarian, it was discovered that Pumpernickel at one point contracted FIV+.  Unfortunately, this affects a kitty's immune system making it much weaker than a typical cat.  Thankfully, the virus is very difficult to pass, and some infected kitties go on to live perfectly normal lives.  Pumpernickel hasn't shown any signs of illness, so she might be one of those lucky kitties!

So we gave you the rundown of Pumpernickel's backstory.  What else can we tell you about this loaf?  Well, Pumpernickel is still in a transitioning period in her life.  When she first arrived to the rescue, she was terrified of humans.  However, after watching Baguette's kittens taking to humans almost instantly, she began to realize that there might more to humans that she previously realized.  She still wants to build up her confidence and hopes her future family gives her the time and love she needs for this.  However, which each passing day, Pumpernickel is becoming more and more comfortable with humans.  At this point, she's beginning to allow her foster parents to hold her and pet her with no issue!  She might even be willing to accept a puppy dog sibling if they are calm by nature!

Pumpernickel's adoption donation is $115 which includes age-appropriate vaccines, dewormer, flea treatment, Felv/FIV testing, microchip, and spay.
