My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Anna, Elsa, Tiana, Ariel, Jasmine, and Belle are the sweetest princesses any rat caregiver could hope for. They are curious, energetic, and gentle little ladies. They enjoy eating yummy treats and bouncing off the walls. They are all ready for their forever homes and can be adopted in pairs, trios, or quads. The adoption fee is $20 per rat.

Please contact us at rats@smallangelsrescue.org for more information. Make sure to include your name and phone number in your email. We respond to all inquiries. If you do not receive a response within 72 hours, please assume there was a problem with your message and kindly contact us again. Thank you for considering adoption, rather than supporting the commercial sale of animals. Any habitat should provide a minimum of two and one-half cubic feet of space per rat. Please check with us before purchasing a cage . Some cages are the correct dimensions but have other problems. We also sometimes have gently used cages on hand for resale, just ask! We are happy to assist you in choosing an appropriate habitat and can save you time, money and frustration. Remember, there is no such thing as a cage that is too big! Check out The Grotto on the Dapper Rat website for housing inspiration! http://www.dapper.com.au/grotto.htm Unsure how many rats a particular cage will appropriately house? Use the Rat Cage Calculator! Remember to click on 2.5 cubic feet and click on Imperial (inches) before calculating. http://www.rattycorner.com/odds/calc.shtml

The rats of Small Angels would like to remind everyone that cedar bedding and pine bedding are toxic to all animals. Please use Carefresh bedding (first choice) or aspen bedding for your animal friends.

Never put your rats in an exercise ball. Exercise balls are dangerous and stressful for all animals. Rodents have poor eyesight. Their vision is even more limited in a cloudy colored ball. They always run into furniture and walls, which they don't see coming. It's like a car crash for them. They back up to try and get away and end up crashing into something else. Its very stressful. In addition, paws can get pinched/broken in the air slits. Animals can easily become over-heated. If they go to the bathroom in the ball, they have to run in their own waste. Furthermore, their great joy in life is exploring and checking things out with their paws and noses. They can't do that in a plastic bubble. Provide a large, safe play area for your rats and skip the ball! For wonderful toy and activity ideas, visit www.dapper.com.au/toys.htm.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Small Angels Rescue’s adoption process is straightforward. Adopters must fill out an adoption application. There is an application for guinea pigs and a separate application for other animals. Once we have the completed application, we interview the adopter by phone or e-mail to clear up any questions and concerns about the application—including whether the adopter meets our cage requirements and has the proper supplies—and to ensure that the adopter has all of the information needed to properly care for the animal. At the time of adoption, adopters must sign an adoption contract.

Adoption fees: Mice, Gerbils, Hamsters & Rats: $10 each for the first three animals, then $5 each thereafter. Guinea Pigs: $45 each unaltered, $65 neutered males, $80 spayed females, $90 bonded pairs.

Small Angels Rescue does not have a physical shelter; rather we care for animals through our network of foster care homes. As such, adoptions are scheduled by appointment only at times and locations agreed upon by the rescue and the adopter.

More about this rescue

Small Angels was founded in fall of 2003 when the organizers recognized a need for a group to help small animals abandoned at animal shelters. The Rescue was founded as a way to move these animals into foster homes for socialization and proper, attentive care, as well as streamline the adoption process and provide accurate, thorough information to adopters about these often misunderstood animals.

Small Angels is a 501(3)(3) nonprofit, no‐kill, all‐volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming guinea pigs, rats and hamsters. Animals are acquired directly via public surrenders and from local shelters and animal welfare groups. We use an extensive network of foster homes to care for the animals until we can find them a forever home.
