My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pupdate- 4.16.24

Hey friends, I'm Cooper! I'm an awesome boy with quite a story.  I will start with telling you a little about the amazing progress I have made in a short amount of time.  Pull up a chair , I can’t wait to tell you about myself…

Mr. Cooper LOVE people and affection. If you are interested in having  someone  be your loyal shadow, this guy is for you! He is an extremely strong and muscular dog weighing in at a solid 62 pounds. You should note that I eat about 3.5-4 cups of food a day. I do seem to have some digestive issues (toots), so we stick to chicken or  beef based  dog food.  I am very food motivated, so you can use food as treats…I don’t seem to know the difference ;)

When  I  first came to  my  foster mum ,   I  was: not house-trained, not crate-trained, couldn’t walk on a leash,  has some  skin issues and sores on  my  feet. But in a short 6 weeks …guess what…   I am  INCREDIBLY excited to share that  I have overcome all of the skills just listed!   I do  fall into  my  old habits of being mouthy, at times when engaging in play.  I’m not being  aggressive ,  just very excited and a lot of energy  makes me overly excited.

From my foster mum:

Although Mr. Cooper LOVES kids, he does not remember his size. This paired with his energy can lead to jumping and possibly knocking over any children. Teenage children or older is recommended. Mr. Cooper also loves other dogs.

Mr. Cooper LOVES to be outside. This includes just lounging in the sun or running zoomies in the yard. His foster mum “highly” recommends a house for him “not” in the cities but instead a quiet area. He currently lives on 4 acres on a quiet dead-end cul-de-sac. He has jumped a fence in the past and his foster mum believes he would still be capable of this, so a fence is not a confinement solution for him long term. He currently runs on a 50 ft. leash lead and this seems to work well. He has stubborn streaks and will not listen if he is determined or focused on something.

He seems to have a “very” high prey drive! Although he lived with a small dog in the past, his foster mum doesn’t know how he would do. There are two small  dogs in the neighborhood now and he seems very eager to meet them but he needs to continue practicing his manners prior to meeting them (they are quite small).

Although he doesn’t bark when people knock at the door, ring the door bell, or stand in the open glass; he will stand gazing eagerly at the individual on the other side. But he doesn’t seem to bark. He  does  bark when foster mum leaves the house, so he should not in a home with any shared walls.

Cooper does not like the cold or to be cold. He LOVES to snuggle in foster mum’s softest blankets and cuddle next to her all night long. I love to lay wherever you will let me but know that I can only go where my basketball blanket is placed.

*Cooper will come with transition sessions with his trainer to help make sure he has a successful transition to his new home as well as being able to communicate with the trainer before meeting Cooper. We love him and are ecstatic he is ready to find his forever family!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process consists of:

I. Completing an Adoption Application

II. Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check

III. Home Visit

IV. Adoption Fee

I Completing an Adoption Application
We screen potential adopters very carefully in order to find the best possible match for both you and our foster dogs. All adoptions are expected to be lifetime commitments!

You must be a Minnesota resident, and at least 21 years old.

All existing pets in your home must be up to date on all vaccinations, and must be-spayed/neutered (no boxers will be placed into homes known to have intact companion animals.)

We require that you complete the entire application including the contact name/ phone number of veterinarian, and personal references.

We as volunteers would like to observe the interaction of the Boxer child/children together.

We will disclose all known behaviors, health or emotional issues to applicant prior to adoption.

Fenced yard is required to adopt a deaf dog.

II Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check
Once your references are checked, a volunteer will contact you to discuss potential matches and to schedule a home visit.

III. Home Visit
The purpose of the home visit is to inspect the surroundings in which our foster dogs will live, meet all household family members, address any major concerns, and get to know you better. (We are not at your home to pass judgment on your housekeeping skills.)

During this visit we will set up a date for you to come and meet the Boxer(s) you are interested in (we ask that you bring your family members as well as your existing dogs)

IV. Adoption Fee
Our adoption fee is based on the age and health of our dogs. The fee can range from $200 - 450.00, with $350 being the average. We will not negotiate adoption fees. This is not a "sale" but a fee that enables us to continue to help more Boxers in the future.

Your adoption fee covers:

Physical veterinarian exam
Neuter/Spay
Rabies
DHLPP
Heartworm Test and preventative meds
Fecal Test and any necessary worming
Bordetella
Microchip implant
Any other treatment deemed necessary by our vet

As you can see, our adoption fee covers numerous expenses. Your potential new Boxer will be
covered for all necessary inoculations for the first year. We will provide copies of all services rendered while the Boxer has been in rescue.

Please visit our website at http://www.mnboxerrescue.org to complete an adoption application and begin the process.

Go meet their pets

MN Boxer Rescue is 100% foster based. We do not have a shelter or central location where dogs are housed. Visit the events page on our website to find out about our meet and greet events.

More about this rescue

When Boxers are in need, Minnesota Boxer Rescue dedicated volunteers respond. Our mission includes hands-on rescue, as well as education.

Many of our beautiful Boxers have had a very "ruff" start, for various reasons, please be assured that we have dedicated ourselves to helping as many of these dogs as we possibly can.

When a dog comes into our rescue program they are examined by our vet, brought up to date on vaccines, heart worm tested, (placed on heart worm preventive medication) and fecal tested. All dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. We evaluate each Boxer's personality and temperament, so he/she can be placed in the best home suited for that dog.
