My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sadie is a 6-year-old, 85-pound improbable mix of German Shepherd and Shar Pei. This is a confirmed and not speculative breed mix. Go figure.

Sadie is not the most attractive dog we have. I get this. This is the dog equivalent of what happens when you cross a supermodel and a rock star. Genetics when only one parent is leggy and gorgeous is sometimes less kind to the offspring and you end up with awkwardness. That's where we are here - tiny head with strange ears on a giant body with a little tail. When she runs, she kind of resembles a demented velociraptor and she is all awkward angles. I am sure you are reading this and are going to tell me how pretty she is and while I appreciate that and love her for what she is, this dog next to a golden retriever is going to get zero attention. It is an absolute fact that people are shallow and it's why weather forecasters on your news shows are always wearing skin-tight dresses and are not 55-year-old, size 18 women who are doing the actual forecasting.

Sadie is a very good girl and she deserves a home. Sadie has done well in a home with other dogs, but she prefers they be mellow and not jump on her. She is not good with cats and she would eat them. Sadie is impeccably well-trained and she knows a lot of commands. She is housebroken and well-mannered and she is a charming dog one-on-one. She is also a powerful athlete that has more in common with her German Shepherd side of things and she loves her walks. She needs 20 minutes of hard running in a back yard daily and then she's happy. She is full of kisses and does not know a stranger as she loves all people. Given how strong this dog is, kids over 12 would be fine. This is a fantastic dog for the right home.

Additional adoption info

Your first step to adopting with Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is to fill out an adoption application. You can find it here:
http://fs18.formsite.com/bigfluffydogs/form952673514/index.html

Once you have done that, an adoption coordinator will call you within 7 days. We have an interview process, vet check and property verification.

Adoptions are made on a best home basis. Our goal is to have the very best home for all our dogs. We carefully screen our dogs for temperament to ensure we are placing the right dog in the right home. Keeping our dogs in private foster homes allows us to tell you all about your dog. A dog in a kennel or shelter location does not have the benefit of family interaction and it is our goal to ensure that every dog is carefully screened.

Before taking your dog home, we require you to sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee of $500 for dogs over 6 months old and $600 for puppies 6 months and younger. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, have had all shots (age appropriate in the case of puppies) including bordetella (kennel cough), rabies, and the distemper/parvo series. All of our dogs have been heartworm screened and are heartworm negative, have had a clear fecal exam, and are up to date on flea and tick preventative and heartguard. This adoption fee covers any other medical treatments the dog may have had while in our care. All vet records travel with the dog. This adoption fee also covers all transport and health certificate costs we incur.

Go meet their pets

Most of our dogs are in private foster homes. If a foster home is unavailable, our dogs are at our kennel in Tennessee. Once your application to adopt is approved, we will have you go to the home or boarding facility to meet your dog.

More about this rescue

Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping giant breed mixed breed dogs in need. We value dogs of all breeds, but we specialize in what the name says: big, fluffy dogs. We have volunteers in several states in the South and New England who work to help homeless big fluffy dogs find a home to call their own. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue works to save Great Pyrenees, Saint Bernards, Newfoundlands and their mixes from euthanasia.
