My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Sally, a 6-year-old, 80-pound German Shepherd/Shar pei mix. Someone bred this dog on purpose and the end result is a very sweet, smart dog with sharp fur, loose wrinkles, a physique like a water buffalo and a face that looks like one of her parents was a hippo.

She is perfect with people of all ages over 8. She is a powerful athlete and she loves to run. She also loves to nap on the bed. She is housebroken and well-mannered in the home, she know a lot of commands and she is supremely friendly to all people.

However, Sally prefers to be the only pet in the household. She dreams of being the center of attention, soaking up all the love and care her new family can offer. This independent streak only adds to her charm, as she enjoys the spotlight and loves being the focus of your world.

This remarkable dog is incredibly intelligent, eager to learn, and enjoys mental stimulation. She'd thrive in an environment that provides mental challenges, exercise, and, most importantly, a loving and understanding family to call her own.

I am going to take all kinds of heat from people when I say that this dog is not attractive, but let's be honest. I could take a super white, fluffy, genetically-blessed dog that's been in a bad mood for 3 years and that dog would be placed instantaneously because it's pretty. People will forget you're irritating to the core if the exterior package is good enough. See, for instance, The Bachelor contestants. A dog that is one taco short of a combination plate in the looks department will sit forever no matter how nice it is. This is established rescue fact and while I wish it was different, the world is shallow.

All she needs a home with no dogs, no cats and a fenced yard. That's it. She's an amazing dog and would be great with pretty much anyone who just wants one dog.

Additional adoption info

Your first step to adopting with Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is to fill out an adoption application. You can find it here:
http://fs18.formsite.com/bigfluffydogs/form952673514/index.html

Once you have done that, an adoption coordinator will call you within 7 days. We have an interview process, vet check and property verification.

Adoptions are made on a best home basis. Our goal is to have the very best home for all our dogs. We carefully screen our dogs for temperament to ensure we are placing the right dog in the right home. Keeping our dogs in private foster homes allows us to tell you all about your dog. A dog in a kennel or shelter location does not have the benefit of family interaction and it is our goal to ensure that every dog is carefully screened.

Before taking your dog home, we require you to sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee of $500 for dogs over 6 months old and $600 for puppies 6 months and younger. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, have had all shots (age appropriate in the case of puppies) including bordetella (kennel cough), rabies, and the distemper/parvo series. All of our dogs have been heartworm screened and are heartworm negative, have had a clear fecal exam, and are up to date on flea and tick preventative and heartguard. This adoption fee covers any other medical treatments the dog may have had while in our care. All vet records travel with the dog. This adoption fee also covers all transport and health certificate costs we incur.

Go meet their pets

Most of our dogs are in private foster homes. If a foster home is unavailable, our dogs are at our kennel in Tennessee. Once your application to adopt is approved, we will have you go to the home or boarding facility to meet your dog.

More about this rescue

Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping giant breed mixed breed dogs in need. We value dogs of all breeds, but we specialize in what the name says: big, fluffy dogs. We have volunteers in several states in the South and New England who work to help homeless big fluffy dogs find a home to call their own. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue works to save Great Pyrenees, Saint Bernards, Newfoundlands and their mixes from euthanasia.
