My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hiya! My name is RINA and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Lab Mix - truly just a total "Mexi Mutt"!

  • Age: approx. 8 years

  • Gender: Female

  • Weight: 54 lbs (24.5 kg)

  • Height: 63 cm (paws to top of my head)

  • Length: 87 cm (head to butt)

  • Neck circumference: 40 cm

  • Chest circumference: 71 cm

  • Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - My rescue story is one that is all too common here in Mexico. I was found abandoned on the side of a busy road in Mexico City. My rescuers suspicion is that my "owners" dumped me, however my story before rescue is unknown. That was 5 years ago and I have been at the shelter ever since! Although I am treated very well here, I dream of having a home where I can live out my senior years receiving all the love and cuddles I deserve. Unfortunately, older, larger dogs are often overlooked, which is why I haven't found an adopter in FIVE years! I have my paws crossed that someone will want to adopt a sweetheart like me; I promise you won't regret it!

TEMPERAMENT - I am a very calm gal who ain't no early riser (I veryyy much enjoy my sleep hehe). I can be shy when I first meet new people but I warm up fairly quickly once I realize they are worth of my trust. I am a quiet girl who rarely barks! I Live at the shelter with 100+ other doggies and we get along just fine (although I'm not much of a player). I show no resource guarding when fed in a room with all the other dogs.

  • Fun facts about me:

    • I love to sleep with company (human or furry)

    • I enjoy playing with balls

    • My fave treatos are apples, tortillas, and veggies!

ENERGY LEVEL - Low - I'm an older gal who is just super happy to chill! I love my walks, don't get me wrong, but after a nice walkie I'm more than down to have a good cuddle and snooze.

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown.

  • Dogs –  Yes. At the shelter, I live and get along with all dogs of all sizes.

  • Cats – Yes! When I was first rescued I stayed in a foster home with a cat and we coexisted nicely.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Not too bad! I don't pull much, but I also don't get a ton of practice working on my leash skills. I am generally taken out on walks with another dog (video), so I may need some confidence boosting if you're gonna take me out solo. I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success!

  • House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP Dog Rescue partners with Unleashed Dog Training (Hannah Swain, Balanced Dog Trainer) to offer adopters 50% off one training session (not including tax and applicable gas surcharges). Any subsequent sessions will be offered at standard rates. WCP also highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.

  • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted (especially older pups!). West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $550.00 CAD + applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.

WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.
